Microsoft unveils new GPS OS - NavReady 2009 - Web-friendly features
Posté le 18 juin 2008 à 18:59:00 par gpspassion. EN - "All in One" Solutions

Updated June 18th, 2008
A majority of GPS models are based on the Windows CE operating system, although not those by Garmin or TomTom so they are outnumbered in total volume. This is likely why Microsoft have launched Windows Embedded NavReady to facilitate the design of new GPS systems and enhance the user experience. There is a particular focus on connectivity with Live Search via the Internet, Bluetooth and Sideshow. Apparently Mio will be using NavReady 2009 for their upcoming devices and there will likely be others. In the meantime you can use this topic of the "GPS and Mobile News" forums to discuss.

Updated February 25th, 2008 ( Customizing WinCE AIO (All in One) GPS systems (see this article) isn't as exciting as it was in the "early days, but once a while someone comes up with a new trick and the latest one is by sancho1234 who managed to add Wi-Fi connectivity to the HP iPaq 31x series. This is good news because it hadn't been done on a WinCE device since the famous WinCE 2 powered ePod, but also because with its 800x480 screen it is a "natural" for web browsing. More details and screenshots in...

... this topic of the AIO forums.

Updated May 18th, 2006 - Here's another notch on the list of successfully "customized" AIOs, the Airis T920P (popular in Portugal and Spain so far), aka as the Typhoon 3210/3230, both built on the same Mitac platform. Here again, on top of the efficient Route 66 navigation, you can now enjoy DivX movies and all-terrain GPS with OziCE. In other WinCE AIO news, here is a GpsPasSion Exclusive for the Packard Bell GPS 400, the v5.5 firmware upgrade that significantly improves the user experience according to those who have tried it and already reported on it. You'll find it in the freshly launched...

... GPS 400 Forums. Enjoy !

Updated 04/12 - While they have yet to break through in the US, WinCE based AIOs are selling like hot cakes in Europe, likely because they do the job and have the added bonus of letting you install many different applications once they've been "customized". Forum member PsiDOC has posted guides on how to (legally) install GPS favorites, TomTom and OziCE on a Packard Bell GPS400 or other AIOs...

Since we're on the subject of AIOs, I would also like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to welcome Compufix as a moderator of the "All in One" forums !

Updated 01/25/2006 - As you will see in our upcoming CES report, AIO's (All in One's) were "IN" at the show this year, there must have been in excess of a hundred different models at different stages of completion. Most of them rely on the WindowsCE4.2 operating system and will likely be "customizable", in the meantime, here are......"step by step" tutorials for currently available units, the Medion's, Mio's and Advent's in Europe and the Magellan Roadmate 800 in Europe and in the US, enjoy !

Posted 05/14/2005 - The world of "All in One" GPS systems in Europe has been through some significant changes since the end of last year with the arrival of the Navigon bluemedia and of the Medion PNA150 that shared the same hardware under a different finish and with different sofware (NavigonCE for the bluemedia and DestinatorCE for the Medion). The Medion 150 v2, running NavigonCE now, and the Transonic followed in March 2005 at the same time as the Mio 268 and the Mio 269 with its 2.5Gb MD......These WindowsCE based devices offer full navigation features at an excellent price point and as the icing on the cake can be "customized" for mp3 or DiVX playing as well as "all terrain" GPS. Find how this can be done in these "step by step" tutorials. Enjoy !
