Chris, no, not on a PDA. You could install it on a small pocket computer, such as OQO2 (www.oqo.com) or a Sony UX, because they run Window XP or Windows Vista.
Years ago Streets & Trips included a free PDA map viewer, but that wasn't very useful for navigation, and it was later discontinued. |

Hello,
I have problems with S&T. It could not connect to my Holux BT M1200 GPS receiver. It says that could not connect to the com port, check to see if other programs use it. At the same time, no other programs use that port. I check with another program and everything goes smoothly.
I still like to use S&T for navigation. Do you have an idea on that?
Thanks,

Hi there,
I found the solution for my issues.
I have to use a program to read the GPS receiver and then feeds the data to Ms S&T through virtual com ports. Ms S&T reads the gps data from one of these virtual com ports. By doing this we may use one gps receiver for several applications at the same time.
To read and feed the gps data, I use the Franson GPS Gate. It costs roughly 40$. Thanks the Swift WX Forum.

You could also use a program called: XPort from CuriousTech. It allows you to split the incomming GPS signal to more than one virtual com port, thereby allowing you to power more than one navigation program. And best of all, it is free or you could give a donation. Check out their website: http://curioustech.home.insightbb.com/xport.html

Thanks for the information. I downloaded and tested the XPort. It's working fine and does not consume much memory but still there are some problems:
- Output port errors: some chosen output ports do not work. It is said that The port is unavailable or the driver is incorrect. E.g. I choose Com 10, it does not work but when I switch to com 16, it works.
- It could not read the grp receiver directly. When I tested it with GpsGate, it reads data from an output port of GPS Gate without any problem.
Thanks a lot.
PS: The software Compass is cool too. |

Mr Hlavac: Absolutely wonderful testing, evaluation, work-arounds etc re: S&T08. A wealth of information...thank you.
bruntor, Pianotuna, (& Mr Hlavac): So, if I get the wife's laptop upgraded (new unit), install ST08, she'll be able to use the antenna etc from her old "0 4" version of ST. And she (or rather, "I") will be able to purchase & use the S&T 08 WITHOUT the hardware that is currently available from the Big Box Membership Warehouse (aka Sam's Club) and save a considerable amount of $$$ (the 08 box w/o antenna was marked ~$30) last weekend.
This is the SAME FULLY UPDATED fully FUNCTIONAL S&T 08 that would come in the box with the antenna...just without the antenna, RIGHT? key words..."WIFE's" laptop, MY purchase for HER. I'm gonna be OK here, right?
Finally, it's not gonna make any difference which OS used -- Window's XP or VISTA (whatever we decide to load on the new laptop), correct?
Thank you all for your clarifying information. Looking forward to new discoveries...Great forum! TL |

Yes, the program itself is identical, whether you buy it with the GPS, or without it.

Only she can answer that for you . But when she finds out that her gift was really meant to be a new toy of yours... - I sense a possible relationship issue .

I use S&T 08 on both, XP and Vista, with no problems.

Regarding the auto-reroute feature, I have realised that the delay is present as a feature to allow users to bypass a stop and get on to another routed segment (if it is within 200m). Without this people will be forced to drive to a stop which they may want to ignore.
If you notice as soon as your vehicle touches another routed segment, the system considers you being in the route. Example in a round trip, if u make a 'U' turn you are considered going home. |
