Hi GpsPassion,
Well I am talking about GPS SW Version = 2.40, not Software version.
What is your Vista HCx GPS SW Version ? 2.40 or 2.30? Well I have a Etrex Legend HCx and I have GPS SW Version = 2.30 and when I try to update it the Webupdater tells me that it's already update.
Regards

The GPS firmware then, ok, I checked my Vista and I had v2.10 so I ran the updater and got offered a download then took it to v2.30 indeed :

I scanned the Update.rgn file for any information, but other then MTK and CORE couldn't seen any reference to v1.8/v1.9 or v2.0 as on the other MTK based receivers.
How are you finding performance on your Legend with v2.30, still have the difference between the odometer and the actual distance travelled ? |

Hi GpsPassion,
It seeems it has a better behavior but still has a differen value.
There someone who has GPS SW Version = 2.40 in a recent buy. The GPSr already brings GPS SW Version = 2.40 but nobody could update it with Webupdater.
You could look the two links

Sure, but I don't have much time and it's poor form to send people to other sites and have them get lost in discussions, if you're going to post in a forum, the discussion should make sense where it occurs.
Can you quantify "better" but still "different" ? There are always going to be differences due to "wandering". |

Sorry to put some links to other foruns. My idea is that you could be interested to follow other discussions about the some issue.
I am sorry but I am not the better person to tell how better is. To me the odometer is more close to the real distance but the diference stills not acceptable for an outdoor GPSr. Some people made some tests.
Maybe high-sensitivity has his price :). I hope Garmin could improve a little bit more odometer behavior.
My fear is that Garmin make some hardware change to newer GPSr Vista/Legend HCx and forgot people who already bougth it.

Putting links is not a problem of course, what is important though is that the discussions in a particular place make sense.
As for judging if it's better or not, your opinion counts as much as anybody else's ;-) You can see from my testing with the 60CSx that generally speaking the price you pay for high-sensitivity is "wandering" so more distance covered than actual. On the MTK the filtering is too aggressive so the distance is understated, is still the case ? |

Yes, it seems so.
Well let's hope that santa-claus brings us some good news.

Thanks for the tip, but that would be the "software" actually as opposed to the GPS chipset firmware ;-)
Let's see if it enables the download of the elusive v2.40 GPS firmware ! UPDATE - nope, no new type M2 FW to download... |
