| It appears that Garmin considers the logging facility a diagnostic tool on the Nuvi and not something that the 'average' user would need or want. As you have seen or read here for most models, to turn logging on, you need to know the 'trick' which is cumbersome at best and impossible at worst. If you really need the logging feature and want to easily turn it off and on and have other options as to what type of log file will be created then I'd suggest that you look at the 1xxx models which are the newest Nuvi's. You can see the procedure for turning on logging from my post on the top of page 48 of this thread. I have found this much easier and the output much more useful than the 'hidden' track log facility on other Nuvi models. |

JimHanus, just use non-SD version. Why don't you want this?
NanaimoRick, Since 3.90 firmware for 1xxx series garmin can log raw track in gpx format natively. Have they started to listen us since modded firmwares available? Who knows.. but it seems to me they found it useful and handy for advanced users (or test-team users). |

neadrenalin, I did get it to work with SD. I like the idea of the tracks being on the card, I can remove the card to download to my PC easier, then delete. The problem I had was when the 200 would re-start, that I would get a message that new software was found that was older than my current version. Did I want to continue to install (or something like that). I would answer yes assuming I wanted to use the older software (it didn't indicate which was which). Apparently not because when I finally answered No it worked properly. Thanks,
Jim |

JimHanus, Enter the \garmin\ folder on nuvi and delete gupdate.gcd before any .rgn usage. Then apply .rgn file with needed features. Unit will not ask you for update.
If you pressed yes, you confirmed to replace firmware to original one. So, it disabled the patched feature (track logging).
I recommend always delete gupdate.gcd from garmin folder.

I have the same problem with the same 255w. Can anyone help us please?

Sadly, only nav.bin and traffic.bin files are recorded, and there is no Debug/ folder in the root directory and no gps.bin file anywhere on the device after recording for extended periods of time. The traffic.bin file contains mostly zeros in the data and I strongly suspect it is a useless file, so I conclude that the feature is not working. On this forum I have read that this is a newer hardware version of the 255w device and that the firmware that shipped with it was 6.00 for HWID 1091 of the 255w. I was reading on the forum that firmware version 3.40 is good for the trip logging RAW feature, but I also read on this forum that I should be careful downgrading newer hardware such as this one, to older firmware, that it may brick my device. I've also read in this thread that squirrelpie has successfully got his RAW logging working on his 255w with firmware version 6.10 but GPS sw 4.10, which I don't know if I'm able to upgrade my GPS software to ver 4.10 from my present 2.00m?? Maybe that would make it possible for a gps.bin file on my device? Can anyone suggest how I can get a gps.bin file to properly record on my device? Thanks.

| Probably HWID 1091 has bugs in activation gps.bin logging. As I have no such device, I can not reproduce the problem. |

| I dont have the patience to sift through 48 pages. lol. my nuvi 765t doesn't have a gps.bin file. What's the easiest way to tranfer/delete the logs from the 765t? And to activate the log (start recording screen et al)? |

Don't have the 765 so I'm not sure what the problem is, but all the useful information concerning raw logging has been painstakingly compiled in the first message, so reading that and the embedded links should get you going.
Just got the 3790T and was happy to find that the raw logging menu is back (it was gone from the 1690), it can be accessed by holding the big round speed counter in the dashboard (accessed by tapping on the speed info) and you can choose to log in bin or gpx mode, I chose the latter and it seems to end up in \GPX\position.txt - ends up in \.system\.logs\gpx folder with a file name like 20100719_140859.gpx [Thanks Rick]

| The raw logging gpx file is actually located in the \.system\.logs\gpx folder with a file name like 20100719_140859.gpx. There will be a new file for each log created and a new log will be created each time you turn on the Nuvi or if you stop and then restart the logging feature. |

Hi! I have downgraded my Nuvi 750 from ver.4.90 to 4.60 with RAW logging But wNutrak can not convert my .bin track to .gpx with message "Wrong header format." What's wrong? |
