You can't get your 500c apart??? Take out the Torx screws and carefully disconnect the cables. Inside you'll see the hard drive at the back. Unscrew the heat sink from the case and pry it apart. It's glued in with some sort of goop. Then you have access to the hard drive.
Note that the connector is small and the pins shorter than most. The cable connecting to an EIDE drive inside a laptop is usually a bit different than the internal one on the iWay so you may have trouble connecting it.
Good luck - but I have to wonder if your hard drive is already corrupt and that's why the 500c isn't working right. What good is a copy of a bad drive?

I don't recall saying my unit was flaky - I did say I'm afraid that it might go some day and i love that thing
I saw a post that said
http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3393107 I was able to just leave the hard drive drive in place and use a 44 pin "crossed" ribbon cable extension to slave it up to my PC. I just finished taking a snap shot of both partitions on the drive with Acronis. Mission accomplished. (well ... I still have to reassemble it )
If you add it all up it get a bit expensive - Thats why I bought an XOG - Found it on ebay supposedly New In the Box Never used - I have to register it - I have heard that Lowrance has a whole bunch of these in the warehouse but they won;t sell them
Hello folks. I'm glad to see at least one other iWay is still running. Both my iWay 500 and 600 are still running (fingers crossed). Thanks to Jon, Bob and others on this board they have both been rewritten to give me exactly what I need. I periodically use a Garmin 5000, but it doesn't provide me the onscreen data that my iWays do.
