Navigon is out. The North America edition is $99 normally but $70 until August 15 and requires over 1 GB of storage space.
The Europe edition is $140!
Well, I'm not that impressed with the Navteq maps for Europe on my Nuvi 670, particularly the POI.
Guess we'll have to see what TomTom does, especially with their accessory bundle.
Someone needs to do a beanbag mount though, not a windshield mount only.
It sounds like from the PR that they replicated the UI of their PNDs. Garmin Nuvi UI blows, especially for adding and then later editing Favorites.
Hopefully someone does a better job of the UI, making use of multitouch on the iPhone, instead of trying to mimic the PND. Not only mutitouch capabilities but you have a faster application processor than most PNDs.
They should be able to do more with the UI than just try to mimic. Of course, that takes expensive development and they have to be convinced the sales will be there.
Hmm, wouldn't it be cool if this changes the business models of the PND makers? |

Anyone here using GPSies ? It still launches on my iPhone 3GS with FW3.1.2 b and displays the speed but the timer just won't start and nothing gets recorded!
UPDATE - nevermind, uninstalled, reinstalled and it works again. |

Been using GPSed to track my journeys and it works wonders. It will upload the trail to their website and you an share it out on Facebook etc. But you don't need to have data connection, you can configure it to upload only when you tell it or at varying intervals. It also alows for pictures and waypoints to be added.
I am planning to use in a trip across the Sahara next month! Should be fun!! |

| Indeed, what are you doing for power, battery packs, solar charger ? One thing I'm finding with many of these apps (GPSies, TrailGuru, etc...) is that they have problems uploading tracks when not connected over WiFi, not sure why. |

I have a Freeloader Pro with the extra solar panel. So that should be enough to power iPhone and my camera's (I hope!)
Only seem to have trouble with GPSed uploading if its on a 2G network (the small circle next to carriers name) but it is happy to track even it it can't upload.
Just wish the GPS would work in Airplane mode! Can switch off 3G and EDGE to save power, but need GSM to receive the GPS. Not good! |
