| I waited and watched for the 96 series to be replaced for a couple of years to replace my well loved Skyblazer... a month or so ago I relented and purchased a 96C, knowing as soon as I did so.... this would happen!!!! Argggggg!!!! |

Interesting, thanks for sharing, I'll post a news item on the portal. You mention the 96, but didn't the 196 and 496 come in between ?
Yeah I forgot to mention the 196-496 as well. Like "Starshot" posted, I was also waiting for the 96/C replacement - not thinking about the x96 series.
The cheapest of the new touchscreen models is priced around where the 96C was a couple of years ago. They (the 96's) have come down a fair bit in the last year or so.
The good news for me (in Australia) is that the Aussie$ is quite strong vs the USD$, so pricing should be reasonable here at least.
These things should also directly compete with DIY hardware + software solutions such as pocket FMS www.pocketfms.com, which costs €150 per year (recurring) or €270 once (and updates cost €15ea for data or €60ea for a program update), plus the price of your chosen PND/PDA to install it on.
The auto navigation is also a bonus, but I don't know if I would risk leaving this expensive bit of kit in the car.
Just got to find someone in Australia who sells now, as the main Garmin Distributer (GME Electrophone), doesn't import aviation GPSs. |
