emmexx,
2x5w works with this trick. It was hard to learn. Trainings for 10 minutes... video courses... private lessons..
Looks like easter eggs are in the firmwares. Every corner may open secrets. :)

Well done! I got it by fluke the very first time I tried touching the 'nearest' box. Never could repeat it, and never left the screen after a missed attempt. Now my wife has my Nuvi and I will have to paitently wait for it's return this evening and give it a try.

Hope this adds some fun for many users. Spread the word.

Nice find indeed, added to the first message with due credit. Let's build that "compatibility" list !

I'm adding the nuvi 550.

It's fairly obvious but it puzzled me at first, if you don't have a fix the menus are greyed out unless logging is already active. I noticed it survives a restart and that you can deactivate the screenshot feature in tools/settings/display.

Wow! Great find!

Works on my 755T!

May I make a suggestion?

May there be a sticky on how to use this feature? A sticky on all information relative to the hidden track log? How to turn it off and on? In which Garmin directory one can find the log? How to view the log in Google Earth, Map Source, and Road Trip?

It's difficult to sift through now thirty-five pages of posts trying to figure everything out.

For example (and I realize the hidden easter egg has just been discovered) how with the 755T it can be determined whether the hidden log is active or not (as there is no stop button) and whether the easter egg survives a restart.

Indeed, I've just discovered that the 755T hidden track log does indeed survive a restart - the screenshot button will appear even if you've disabled this feature previously. That's how you know the hidden track log is still active. To turn it off simply repeat the instructions and tap 'Stop'.

Oh, by the way...

On my nüvi 755T it says "Intersection" not "Junction". Rather obvious but it may confuse some.

Good idea, as you will have seen the first message has been regularly updated over the past two years to summarize the important aspects of this feature. If you want to reorganize it or add parts, we'll be happy to add your text there.

nuvi 750 (1 SirfStar, 1 MTK; both FW v4.60); records to the nuvi on-board flash memory which I'd find a little worrying (OK, I like to worry :D )

I think I'd stick with neadrenalin's SD-card-enabled version so that the only thing that might get trashed is the SD card. Just my opinion; YMMV

Maybe now you can rest for a moment and stop creating firmware hacks in your spare time. ;-)

Do you think that a firmware hack is still needed to save the log to the sd? Or is it just a parameter inside some xml file?

Thank you

emmexx,
I think SD patch is much easier and no need to disassemble. Of course it is needed.
And for old-fashioned models like nuvi 200w the whole patch is needed - no 'where am i' function.

There may be more easter eggs waiting to be discovered in even the older Nuvis.

I am using a patched Nuvi 200 with HWID 0660 and by accident, I managed to discover a satellite accuracy screen but have not been able to recall it since. Perhaps people like emmexx who are more adept at finding the correct sequence of keystrokes will be able to do so. This is not the same as the satellite location screen that you get from touching the signal strength indicator in the Nuvi 205s but occupies just the right half of the screen showing the accuracy in metres - just words; no graphics.

One day I was routed to a certain destination and I was scrolling through all the turns to see if the routing was acceptable. I was still driving but as I reached the last page of turn instructions, I also deviated from the route so the unit recalculated. At that point, the last page of turn instructions became a page to show the accuracy of the satellite lock - first it showed 4 metres then 3 metres. Then I touched the back button then scrolled again to the last page of turn instructions to see if the accuracy page was still there. Alas, it was not there anymore and I could not get it back.

It is there but I just don't know how to unlock it.

Lean not on your own understanding

The sd patch is great, but we also need to patch so that the other 2 files to also get written to the SD. Otherwise the returns are minimal. Traffic.bin is many times larger than gps.bin

"On my nüvi 755T it says "Intersection" not "Junction". Rather obvious but it may confuse some."

This depends on the language setting. British or American.

Press as seen on picture 1 2 3 and 4
