Exactly, everything works great, thanks a lot!

@ PouchX and neadrenalin

Ahhh, a hardware NAND flash reader/dumper...very interesting.

Thanks to you both for your work on the firmware. I now have a working (tested fine on my 760) v3.20 backup for both of my 7x0 units. Backdated to v2.5 and updated back up to v3.20 (original firmware of my 760) with no problems.

Yes, but did you not dump the v3.20 firmware for the 7x0 series?

waiwcw, yes. I can download it from:
http://garmin.com.tw/products/Nuvi200W_TWN/download.htm
http://garmin.com.tw/products/Nuvi200_TWN/download.html
It means that 0760 and 0780 are taiwan. I will try to mod, if I have more time.

btw, no news about 7x0 yet (no time for it).

"no time for it" is a quite good news. It is better news than "no possible for 7x0"

On nuvi 250W HID_0737 works perfect. Thanks a lot for you & PouchX (PL mods).

How dangerous is this?

I like the fact that when I record a tracklog by pressing on car it gives a timestamp that I can relate to a waypoint. Makes Geocashing so much easier, thanks neadrenalin. Also want the 200W tw and 760 tw units.

Neadrenalin,

I have a nuvi 260W with OEM version 5.00 installed. I can enter
into pre-boot mode by holding the power button, then I connect
the USB cable. Updater.exe finds the device; the problem is
that nuvi goes into screen calibration mode after that.
I didn't even have time to click the Ok button to update
the device (maybe that's a good thing). Do you know
what could be going wrong?
Thanks!

There is a mirror from our polish friends.

joeya1k, let's calcualte the most worse scenario. 100K are the total cycles when one cell in flash will be damaged (there are a lot of flash chips that have 1M cycles and more). What is the cycle? It's erase, write '0', erase, write '1'. Of cource in real life you usually have the same data, so '0' to '0' and '1' to '1' is not the cycle. So, 100K/3600*cycle = 27*2 hours. It means that IF garminz use the super-thrash algo they can damage one cell in 2 days.
Let's see in real. Nuvi stores tracks in the filesystem. It's flash. Every second it is written (probably?), so assuming 4kb flash block organisation there are following steps every second:
1. open file for write
2. add some bytes to the end of the file
- internal flash memory controller must read 4kb, then erase 4kb block, write the same old bytes plus changed some bytes.
So, the one cycle passes every time for NEW bytes only (not all bits of them, but 50% for example).
(In case of memory corruption flash memory controller has invisible to user remapping feature).
One way to make worse scenario alive - to delete gps.bin file every second :)) but it is impossible, you have to attach usb, ... etc... much more than 30 sec. I don't beleive you can make it in your car while driving.
I'd recommend to use device as usual :) to record tracks. If you really afraid something, keep all old tracks on nuvi disk, so every time newer info will be on another place in flash.

dmnamibia, be happy! :)

Bit Brainy Kot, alexandre_g_dias,
detach usb, power on device, press on 'battery' for 10 seconds (this enters to the hidden service menu), then attach usb. Install system drivers (OS will need it). Your unit is in service mode (that also accepts updater commands), so run updater and proceed.
