I just bought the 750 unit. Can'y figure out how to reset the Track Log. Turning it off just does not show the track on the screen but the data keeps piling up.

| Careful, you're referring to the "official track logger", not the "hidden logger" discussed here, but to anwser your question, to erase the data, go to "my data" in settings (or approaching, don't have my 760 handy). |

| And just so you are aware, the official trip log only stores 10,000 points. It will then overwrite the oldest points. So you don't have to clear the trip log unless you want to. |

No.
The "enable" bit for that function is not stored in any currently accessible area (like USB drive). It is definitively stored somewhere in the flash memory of the unit. If somebody could find a way to read that flash memory and dump it to disk, it should be easy to find where the activation bit is and modify it back. |

I've tried to search for the 'Start' string in the downloaded installation file, but it may be scrambled--i could not find it with my hex editor.

Instead, search for 'S',00,'t',00,'a',00','r',00,'t',00. Many strings are separated by hex 00. So make an hex search for:
53007400610072007400
Edit: I guess these zero spaced strings are called "unicode". BTW, I think the code for starting/stopping the hidden log is still there. It just does not appear anymore in the speedometer menu. |

I've created patched firmware for my nuvi 200w (HWID = 0737 - like boeing :))). v.4.00 that has following features: - enabled hidden tracklog menu - fast access to 'speedometer' (no need to hold on 5 or more seconds) - this tracklog stored in RAW format from the gps chipset - no 'lock on road' as in 7xx.
http://e-trex.info/fw/nuvi/2xxW/fw_nuvi2xxw_id0737_en_v400+tracklog.rar
Please, DO NOT USE this firmware for another HWID's!!! This really will damage your device. As for another nuvi firmwares that can be tracklog enabled - you have to wait. :)
HWID that are not created yet: 0835 (nuvi 2xxW)(striked units see below), 0780 on page 28, 0660 , 0760, 0834 (nuvi 2xx), 0754 (nuvi 7x0) - Done! on page 28
How to simple find your HWID: Attach nuvi as mass storage device, then open /Garmin/garmindevice.xml in any text viewer and find some info like this quote: <Model><PartNumber>006-B0737-00</PartNumber><SoftwareVersion>400</SoftwareVersion>
So, partnumber is the quite matter info for webupdater and for us of cource. |
