I think that something really bad went to my Nuvi 250 just bought from abroad my country (hence not possible to send back for repairs)
Here is the case story!
0) I have backup of all the nuvi files a week after vought on my PC
1) It started when I found the nuvi250 had lost all its waypoints and settings when I started it up.
2) The current.gpx was overwritten with the new one, so I tried to retreive it using a PC software retrieve deleted files program (R-Studio)
3) The old current.gpx file was retrieved. I overwritten it with on the exitsing one.
4) When I restarted the nuvi, it blocked on loading maps and then it switches off. With USB connection, it is not reckognised by the PC
5) I tried the reset button and delete user data (hold screen low righ corner) but useless
6) I tried the method above of holding slider to the left (PRE BOOT), and PC said that new hardware was found. I was prompted to install some driver (which I did in a hurry and not able to read what it was). After installation, the Garmin drive did not show up in my computer (gulp!)
7) I kept power slider to the left until 'press dot' message came. After a while I discovered that i have to press a series of dots on screen rapidly. Doing so, I got the message "Callibration complete" What happened!
8) I tried again, but still the same, "loading maps..." and no USB
Please help cause I am desperate. |

I have deleted your duplicate post. If someone can help you they will post here. There is no need to post the same request in multiple threads.

No problem reg del 2x posts. After I posted, I realized that is better to address this issue on a new topic.
Yesterday I spent 4 hours browsing for a reply on the internet. The MAIN PROBLEM is that my Nuvi is never reckognised as a USB Mass Storage device by my PC or Laptop. Without such connection I can neither delet files, nor upgrade anything through updaters!
I noted that when sliding the power switch to the left for a PREBOOT mode (which I never got into), GARMIN USB becomes listed in the device list (via hardware manager) but no USB Drive letter or Disk in the disk managment tool (via Admin tools). The GARMIN USB device disappears after the Nuvi enters into screen calibration mode, that is 45 seconds from switch on.
In an italian forum, I read that pressing the left corner and power up, the Nuvi 200 goes into Test mode, but in my case I only go into delete user data (YEs/No) screen
If while powering up I press slide switch to left again, I get some error with the map (so I presume that I got the map corrupted)
Summary: 1) Why my PC is not reckognising my Nuvi 250 as MAss Storage Device on PC/Laptop? 2) How can I enter pre boot mode or "test mode" from the Nuvi?

Latest news: I read on garmin website that Web Updater does not support certain USB controllers namely my VIA. I connected to a different controller and got a bit of advance with updater 2.41 which updates directely to garmin nuvi device without searching for mass USB storage. My garmin got found now.
However, the process has to be done in those 45 seconds until screen callibration comes up. I really need to know how to stay logged in Preboot mode. There should be a way.
When I tried the upgrade (from my 2.9 to 3.3) in steps during those 45sec I get that my upgrade file 2.9 is corrupted? See image below:
How shall I tackle this situation?

| Popej. I've read that post and even posted the same problem there - that my nuvi250 does not stay on Preboot mode. While I keep the switch to the left (on) it will go into screen calibration mode after 45 seconds. |

That's normal behaviour. You have about 30 second to run updater.exe. And this is different programm then WebUpdater.
If you are not shure how to reflash your nuvi, better ask Garmin support. Maybe there won't be much problems with sending nuvi for repair.

I would really like to learn the process myself, for future problems like this. Can you tell me where to get the the updater.exe file please. I have a prog (not sure if correct version and compatible with my Nuvi 250) which search for Mass Storage Device of Nuvi, and as I said, this is not found.
Perhaps if someone can point a link to the package, I will give definitely give a try and keep you posted.
Thank you popej |
