| Has anyone looked at these two new units from holux? They still use the MTK chipset. I was wondering if static navigation was turned off and if they were okay at walking speeds? |

| I can't find anything different between the two besides their sizes and prices. Am I missing something? Any chance of a review of one or both of these? I'd like to know if it actually gets 23 hours of battery life. |

Looks like both the 1000b and 1200 are listed at Semsons now. Haven't been able to find a firmware rev yet though. |

| Fletch, any way you can test at low speeds to see if this firmware reports speed and bearing while walking? I know this has been an issue with previous revisions. Also, how is the battery life compared to reported? Thanks for any insight you can give the community. |

Fletch713: That sure seems like an odd firmware string! Most of the MTK firmware strings have the term "M-Core" in them. However, you have a new model there, and maybe they have changed the nomenclature, and started at 1.0 again! Trouble is, it's probably hard to determine if this is a SN unit based on that string.
It's easy to tell if SN is on or off. Take the unit and just walk slow for 10 minutes. Do you always have a bearing and a speed? |

| my holux m-1200 shows also B-core_1.0.0013. When I'm start walking slowly, I have to walk several meters until the coordinates changes. When I'm doing the same with the BT-359 (SiRF Star III), coordinates changes after 1-2 steps already. I haven't exactly measured battery life, but it's less then 15 hours with bluetooth connected. |

Pietsch: When you start walking from a dead stop, do the speed and bearing become non-zero right away?
(As I've mentioned before on this forum, the MTK static nav. will freeze the bearing much more agressively than the coordinates and speed) |

Musky: No - I have to walk several meters until speed and bearing changes from non-zero to the moving values and the coordinates beginning to change. |

I used MiniGPS to change the Update Rate to 5 and the Baudrate to 57600. I assume this changes the bandwith to 5 hz, but I'm no engineer and don't know for sure. In any case, using GPS Tuner, my coordinates, bearing, and speed change as soon as I start to move at a leisurely walking pace. I was only able to do a short 1-minute walk since it's drizzling outside, but the GPS Tuner tracked my path and provided a heading just fine. I'll try a longer walk when the weather clears up.
Update: I drove around using TomTom 6, and the GPS dropped connection 3 times, requiring me to turn it off and on before TomTom would re-acquire. I'm going to change the baudrate back to 38400 to see if that's the problem. Hopefully it's not the update rate. |

Pietsch and fletch713 seem to have different opinions on whether static navigation has been turned off on the M-1200. Does anyone else have one of these devices to test to see if static navigation is turned off?
Thanks! |

I am also interested in the Holux m-1200 and this is what I found out, long story short -- apparently the older MTK chipset devices had issues with slower speeds, but the newer ones have fixed this issue. The thread below explains it in more detail...

I think it would still be good if people could post their experiences with the m-1200 in this thread, including when they bought it. (FWIW I'll be getting mine in about 2 weeks and will post a review here by the end of this month.) |

| Yeah, that was me that asked that question, and I just received my Holux M-1000B from Semsons today and it works properly at low speeds. BTW I was very happy with Semsons - quick delivery and cheap prices. |

I bought a Holux M1000 receiver in late September in Spain and I have not noticed anything like frozen position, speed or course after a stop. My device comes with the firmware B-core_1.0, that I do not know whether it fixes the so-called "static nav" problem or not. What do you think about?
