| My 310 was successfully updated this morning. The date format is now preserved between reboots. And as was reported by Infama, carpool is now an option and the pedestrian mode mod's been removed. |

Yes, the update installs a new data.zip so all the previous changes are going to get wiped out, darn...I wish we had documented that list of useful mods, not too late, from the top of my head : pedestrian mode, map colors, speed signs and speed indicator color (Europe only).
@Infama - thanks, nothing too exciting then, it seems the new CM has added more value like importing routes ! |

@guillaume,
I went one step further...I saved all my indiv mod files for fast re-implementation!
Other updates people report include a new gey transparent turn signal in the map screen itself and a clearer Susan voice(still low though). Some one else said the UI was a bit faster as well. |

Thanks Infama... won't it be good of HP to post a list of changes done in the new update ?
Would be nice to have someone be able to do a realtime navigation check.
Also, the way I remember the update worked 3 months ago, I had to leave the 310 connected to PC while downlaod of updates happens. Is that still needed ? I really think that is a crazy way of doing the update. they should just allow a standalone ftp downlaod and then CM could ask for the new file location and start the updates from there.
I ahve 2 GPS units so my pain is doubled if I need to keep the PC and GPS connected for all the time it takes....
@gpspassion : You gave me a good idea. I saved my old data and new data files (I am still on old version, as I haven't started the update yet) I could run a file diff to see doc changes unless Infama has figured out those tweaks already. |

I would suggest that you all update the HP iPAQ Travel Companion 310 Series Application first then start updating other things. My 2 cents. |

@ Koo,
I am not sure that subbing the old data.zip for the updated one would be a good idea! Many things could have changed. My plan is to compare the old and INDIV. files and just change the necessary lines in the indiv. file. That way I preserve other possibly undetected changes. i will then recompress (copy) those files back into the new data.zip.
The ones that will create the most problem will be the day and night colours from John Cougar. Too many changes there to do line by line.
Of course, I plan to do a CM full backup and a data.zip file backup beforehand! |

| What I am surprised is HP lack of upstream bandwidth for pushing this update out. I am on a 10Mb connection and it is slow as molasses. You would thing they would have some sort of CDN to push out an update 1GB+ in size. |

I have notes on the mods I did in case any one is interested. Here they are:
data.zip:project_config\hp_sagan.ini: increasing volume from 64 to 128.
[Before] sound_volume=64 voice_volume=64
[After] sound_volume=128 voice_volume=128
data.zip:ui_hp_sagan\800_480\ui\setting_800_480.ui: add Pedestrian mode.
[Before] z=1 value="Car|0|Taxi|1|Bus|2|Truck|3|Bicycle|6"
[After] z=1 value="Car|0|Taxi|1|Bus|2|Truck|3|Pedestrian|5|Bicycle|6"
data.zip:ui_hp_sagan800_480\ui\setting_800_480.ui: add car pool lanes mode.
[Before] boolmodel="route.allow_carpool" hide>
[After] boolmodel="route.allow_carpool">
data.zip:project_config\hp_sagan.ini: remove nav warning message.
[Before] drive_carefully=1
[After] drive_carefully=0
Note: When resuming from standby while on battery the message is not displayed. When resuming from standby while charging the warning message is displayed.I have had only inconsistent results.

Hi
I haven't found this written here so let me contribute this, what was my first mod at the 310, and is also gone after the update, so I have to do it again: If you want to get rid of the Ding sound at the beginning of each voice command: Open the file "!nav_ding.wav" in data.ip/audio with an audio editor. At the end of the sound there are some milliseconds of silence. Mark a little section here and cut/trim the sound before, than save the file again into data.zip. Done. If some audio in the beginning of the announcements is missing, duplicate the silence section, and save again. It is working very well for me. regards Eberhard |

@hpgps
No need for the carpool mod anymore. HP has restored it.
They wont be restoring PED mode though...I guess for legal reasons.
Thanks for the summary...very useful. I hope we can add day/night screen colour mod to it, as well as speed warning. I have seen a better solution for the drive_carefully warning. when I find it, I will update on the custom thread. |

This HP update concentrated on reworking the architecture, rather than adding tons of new features to shakey infrastructure.
I am told that the routing has been improved thru map optimization. Keyboard functionality is enhanced. System stabiity should be greatly improved (less freezes and crashes), TTS was made louder and clearer (with some voices re-recorded), POI enhancement done. Maps are the same release version, but improvements have been made to them.
Ozzies get speed camera data. Content Manager gets proxy feature and trip planning download feature.
For the near future, W. Europe and Singapore are expected to get free map upgrades (nobody else though). Finally, a full system update tool should be available in a month or so. I already told everyone that optional maps should be available for purchase in 2-3 weeks.
In case anyone wants to know how I know this...it pays to have good contacts! LoL |

Well, I am happy it worked for you guys...
When I saw that the update was available I began downloading the new version of the application (201mb) plus a a few maps. After it was done, I tried it out and while rebooting the 310 crashed... No problem I rebooted it on the sd card and from there I managed to restore the back up.... The 310 was back in business.
Second try: I just downloaded the application again last night, tested it this morning and crashed again... I am restoring the backup again at this time. What am I doing wrong??? Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks |
