Streets & Trips 2009 Wish List
While a user wish list like this one may not in any way influence what we will see in future versions of Microsoft Streets & Trips, it may at least be fun to see what other users consider important for the way they use this product.

I personally wish for a properly functional "Perspective map" feature with the GPS icon pinned to the bottom center of the screen. The map should move - the GPS icon should stay still. If other software developers can do it, so can Microsoft.
What is your most important #1 wish for the future versions of MS Streets & Trips?

I too find the "Perspective map" a little Mickey Mouse... Oh, I know, how about an all in one style unit (like the Garmin) with S&T installed! |

| Yes, I think the user interface could improve quite a lot if Microsoft programmers would re-design Streets & Trips to be usable even on a tiny 3 inch screen. |

Two things I would like to see. First, is that the automatic re-routing be an option that can be turned on and off. Second, that the GPS refresh rate of the screen be dependent on the zoom level. When you are zoomed out so that several hundred miles is showing on the screen the GPS marker probably does not have to be repositioned every second or two. This is a major problem for me at night because the screen flickers very frequently. I end up partially closing the lap top screen so I do not see the flicker, which defeats the purpose of having Street and Trips running.

I would like to see an adjustable driving instructions pane. As it is now, it takes a substantial part of the screen of my Asus R2H and there is a lot of unused black space in it. A second thing is (adjustable) automatic zooming depending on the driving speed: When driving slowly, I like to zoom into street-level and on the highway I like to zoom out. It would be very nice to be able to specify a zoom level for a couple of speeds and have Autoroute gradually zoom from one to the other. (say: 0, 20, 50, 100 KM/h) A third wish: full screen option at all times, not only when driving guidance is enabled.

| After owning every version on streets since it came out, and using it on 4 different laptops/tablets, I opted to buy a nuvi. I'll still buy 2008 just to have, but a half hour of preparation just turned in to minutes. |

| Microsoft programmers need to improve the automatic re-routing; it's way too slow compared to the speedy automatic re-routing in iGuidance versions 3 & 4. |

| The ability to have updated software bugs & improvement patches to fix problems in future versions as well as ability to update maps on-line would be of great benefit for S&T customers. |

| I would like to see the actual date, and day, instead of 'Day 1', Day 2' etc. in the 'Directions'. Allow the user to enter the start date, so we can correlate an actual date and day. This would allow users to make more precise plans during a trip. Then we could change the Start Date, or change the number of Days to stay longer or shorter at places along the route to make sure of the proper arrival time at a distant location. |

It seems like most people want S&T to be a full blown GPS navigation system now more so than a trip planning tool. Since I use it for planning routes and travel on a motorcycle I don't need the GPS feature but I know I'm in the minority on that aspect.
I would like to see some improvements in the route planning of streets and trips. Just some little things like be able to reset the gas mileage counter so you can tell it that you're stopping for gas at a certain waypoint. That way it resets the next place you need to get gas.
I would like to be able to select the amount of detail I want at a certain zoom level instead of having to zoom into 18 miles to see all the roads.
Give more options for displaying GPS coordinates and include support for the dd mm.mmmm GPS coordinates format.
Curt
These don't seem like hard options to add but they never seem to get put in. |

| 3 simple letters GPX. Why haven't they added an export to GPX function yet? I bet the number of users would double if it was a simple 1 step process. |

I too have decided on a nuvi in our car and a Lowrance in our motorhome. Even with the space in a motorhome the laptop still takes up too much room and with it's waiting to boot up and load, especially after locking up running S&T and requiring a complete reboot, is just a pain.
And due to the amount of problems listed on this forum and the Streets & Trips Newsgroup I'm so glad I didn't upgrade. My 2007 Version is working just fine for basic trip mapping and planning. It would appear based on all the complaints and problems Microsoft has pushed too far with new features.

Do something to accommodate time zone changes, beyond just alerting us to the fact that they are there.
The times listed in the directions are pegged to whatever time zone the route started in. I can understand if MS doesn't want to get into putting specifics into code, but at least they could offer us a manual time adjustment feature in the "Schedule Stop" function. So we can manually make the necessary time shift when our route takes us across a time zone border. |
Regards,

| I would like to see S&T and Autoroute combined into just one program and more maps included like Australia, New Zealand, Central/South America, etc. I don't see how having two separate programs makes any sense, other than Microsoft being able to charge more for the same product. |

We use S&T for trip planning and some guidance in a motorhome. We also have a TomTom.
For me, Most important is to get the bugs out before releasing. I returned my 2008 and bought a 2007 version and now have no problems at all. The map data in 2008 has lots of misplaced places. These kind of things should be fixed BEFORE a 3D version is even considered, imho!
Second would be to agree with Curt about refueling. It would be nice to have a symbol, like a gas pump, which you can set anywhere and S&T would calculate when you need to refuel. The way it is now, for me on unfamiliar roads, i have a new map for each fuel stop, so i can see how far to drive before refueling at a truck stop.
Third, The TomTom has a variable resolution---at higher speeds the map is zoomed out, at slower speeds the map is zoomed in with more detail. This should be implemented as an option.
