Sometime ago I downloaded version 4.8 but never installed it. I've been using 4.71 and wonder if I should switch to the newer version, but I haven't seen any posts about PPC 4.8. Comments from anyone using 4.8 would be appreciated.

Thank you

Strange, I never heard of 4.8. Do you mean the version named Evolution? This is a variation on 4.71 using regions rather than individual county maps. Much has been written on that version. Otherwise, please do clarify! Thank you.

Hope this helps!

Gordias:

I found it on the Mapopolis Web site - here's the link:
http://www.mapopolis.com/home.jsp?v=c&pg=dl&s=1188057002818629&p=&q=4

Go to the paragraph labeled "Pocket PC Windows Installer (Preferred)"

Thank you.

Thanks, been quite a time since I downloaded from there rather than the betas bosted on kudzumonthly!

Anyone who has figured out how to attach files please let me know and I will amend the posting, because as I cannot figure out if this is possible I will simply add below the contents of the two sets of changelog histories. Which, in summary, imply that 4.8 is a roll-up of everything in the 4.71 betas and there is no (signficant) difference between 4.71 and 4.80. First from 4.80:

SHORT LIST 4.7 - 4.8 (RC4/Final 2006-03-11)

* Fixes truncated text "Show Automatically requires GPS" which should now fit entirely on the display

* Fixes a problem with the API
* Fixes bug with using the Irish major roads map to open county maps
This applies to any region where they use the form "County X" instead of "X County" in naming their counties.
