A new version of GPSimply (and renewed web site) is now available at http://www.jeensee.com/GPSimply.
The installation issues previously described in this topic seem to be completely solved now; the program should now install with no problems on C710, C510, C310 (may be others?)
Additional features and improvements have also been added.
Here are a screenshoot and a picture.

For those C310x (and other) users that do a hard reset from time to time, GPSimply will go away. The automated restore solution is to do the following:
(1) Make a copy of your registry and the contents of the \JeenseeVB directory (as best I can tell, the only directory in which the program will successfully install) onto your SD card in what folder you want. (2) Add instructions in your restore script (in my case, C310AUTO.c31) to restore the registry and the \JeenseeVB folder from the SD card back to the device ("Regedit" and "copy" commands). (3) Make a Desktop shortcut to GPSimply using the "Desktop" command in the .c31 file.
I do a complete registry restore since (a) it doesn't take a long time, and (b) GPSimply adds quite a few registry entries, which in theory could be copy/pasted into a separate .reg file but (since I was doing it on an airplane with the C310x tools) didn't bother. |

I use another method, that - in my opinion - is easier and less prone to errors : using C310Auto (in my case renamed to C710Auto; see HERE ), I do an automatic reinstall of GPSimply - and of some other programs as well - in case of hard-reset.
The rationale behind this choice is the following: GPSimply indeed, like many other programs that can be installed on a Mio, consists of many files and generates registry entries. Tracking every file and every registry entry of an installation is not practical and is prone to mistakes; saving and restoring the entire registry solves half of the problem (and, moreover, the regedit program reccomended by the author of C310Auto is not able to make a dump of the entire registry; although other methods to obtain a whole registry dump exist).
Reinstallation with C310Auto is simple; for GPSimply I have put the following line in my .c31 file (the installation puts a link in the Programs start menu as well):
Call "\Windows\wceload.exe" /noaskdest /delete 0 "\Storage Card\CABS\GPSimplyV1.1_Arm.cab"
(NOTE: it is actually one line even if you might see more than one here above..) As can be inferred from the above command, I keep the CAB files of the programs to be reinstalled in a "Storage Card\CABS" directory. Even the programs that are distributed for installation via an xxxx.exe to be run on a PC (and rely on ActiveSync) will normally generate a CAB file; the CAB file can be recovered from the PC ActiveSync directory.
All the above does not apply to many utilities (regedit itself, ITaskMgr, MoveWindows etc.) which require only an .exe file to run, without need of a "complex" installation. I keep these programs in "My Flash Disk\Utils" (which is not swept away on hard reset) and I use C310Auto only to regenerate the links. |

Indeed a reasonable alternative. Just make sure that prior to putting the relevant .cab file on your device (be it SD card or flash memory), you set the attribute to "read only", otherwise the installation process will erase it (unless the "delete 0" switch in the command line above prevents that from happening). Normally when you run a .cab file from the RUN command, it will be deleted after it's done it's thing unless the attribute is Read Only.
Regedit v.90 (Tascal) has no problems exporting/importing entire registry files. Regedit 0.83 (which is included in the stock C310auto archive) does. |

YES! "delete 0" tells wceload that the CAB file shall NOT be deleted, therefore setting the read-only attribute is not necessary (it can give added security if one wants).

In the mean time, GPSimply 1.2 has been put online:- Added button: add current position to the waypoints list (=I want to come back here...)
- Destination directory for installation can now be freely choosen (°)
- Lack of symmetry in coordinates displaying format (Position field) has been corrected
(°) Well, "almost freely.." (see below) |

@ginsi,
Latest version won't work on my Mio C310 when installed in default folder on my Storage Card, get error can't find GPSimply or one of its components. Ok if installed to default folder in main memory.
Keep up the good work.

@IanJ Yes, the same thing is happening to me. The problem is likely to be connected with the fact that the directory "\Storage Card" has a blank space in its name, which is not properly handled. I think that one of us (would you please be you?) should leave a message on the GPSimply site; so they can correct the problem.

GPSimply 1.2.1 has now been released.
This release apparently solves the problem described above when installing to the Storage Card.
