Hi I had some specific questions of the Magellan Maestro 3140. I read the magellan website for the 3140 and have the following Qs:

1. It looks like the 3140 does not come with any software upgrades/maps. Is this correct ? Does this mean I cannot even upgrade the map in a few years?

2. Is it possible to plug-in an SD card for, say, Europe in this model ?

3. The magellan website does not seem to show that the traffickit is compatible with this model. I am keen on the traffickit since it adds a power source to the base instead of the gps unit.

4. There is no mention of any connection to the PC. Does this particular model have any PC connectivity ? (to upload POI, s/w updates, enter addresses on PC etc)

Can someone please confirm ? I already have and use the Garmin Nuvi 350 and like it, but the 3140 seems to have more useful features which the nuvi lacks.

1.) The unit is only a few months old and there aren't any updates as of yet. It doesn't mean that they won't release an update if need be. If you need to upgrade to a newer map, I believe you have to pay for that software.

2.) It has a SD card slot to backup/restore data and upload maps. I don't know if the unit can directly read the map off the SD card during use instead of using an installed map off of its internal memory.

3.) There is a traffickit option for this unit. There are settings to configure in the unit. But you are correct, magellan's site doesn't list the traffickit for the 3140 although other sites do...

4.) It comes with a usb cable and a cd w/ poi software.

For more info the manual for this unit is here:

Thanks t3mp for the information and the manual. It is funny, that through the entire manual, there is not a single mention of the TTS feature nor even a word on connecting it to a PC. I am glad to know there is a traffickit option.

So I called up both Magellan tech and customer support to cross-verify:

1) It looks like 3140 in the US is not compatible with Europe maps. In other words, if you ever go to EU, you will need a different unit.

2) Magellan has not yet released a TrafficKit compatible with 3140. It seems they have a roadmap of an October 2007 release.

Point 1) seems to be a bummer. After paying $300 for the 3140 (costco), it is sad that I can't buy an EU plugin map.
