UPDATED 20080903 - datalogging >1Hz can be set directly from the excellent BT747 Program, here's how for 5hz above 50kph for instance 1. Go to the CTRL tab 2. Check Time and type 1 3. Check Speed and type 50 4. Type 200 in Fix 5. Click on SET
Posted by rorycooney in the Q1000 Topic ### Qstzar BT-Q1000 can log at 5Hz to internal memory ####
I had assumed that 5Hz logging was only possible by pda or PC but quite by accident I seem to have found that the BTQ1000 has the ability to internally log at 5Hz. Right now I'm looking at a log I took while going for a short motorbike ride. Once the bike gets over 30km/h (as set in the travel recorder utility) the logger has recorded 5 individual entries for every second. Essentially I can see my acceleration characteristics down to .2 seconds. The time stamps are identical however for all 5 entries. I assume that it just doesn't record the .0 .2 .4 .6 .8. When plotted the data clearly shows the acceleration and deceleration with .2 seconds resolution.
Setup
1 - Set logger to record at 5Hz using MiniGPS 1.32.
2 - Using Qstzar pc utility set logger to Advanced=>Log For Vehicle=>Log every 1 second and Log over 30km/h.
3 - Use logger as normal on a drive or roller coaster or whatever in log mode. (Ididn't have mine connected to any PC or PDA)
4 - When downloading information you must set the logger back to 1Hz otherwise there is too much live GPS data on the emulated com port over USB when downloading data from logger.
Note by djwinn : If you set the log to record time in miliseconds in the qstarz travelcorder utility then you get five separate time stamps at 0.2 second intervals whenever your velocity exceeds the speed threshold.
I trying in commerce a gps data logger > 1Hz. Can you indicate some valid product to me? Thanks a lot |

According to a post from user 'musial' in the german pocketnaviation- forum the WBT-201 can log at 4 Hz http://forum.pocketnavigation.de/thread.php?threadid=1067202&threadview=0&hilight=&hilightuser=1052325&page=6 . But there is a problem: the logger has to be configured to a time-interval of 0 seconds to log all events. The included software TimeMachineX will not accept 0s as valid value. You will have to send the commands to switch to this rate manually (see post from 'musial' for details). The GPS-receiver can be set to 4 Hz with µ-Center CFG-RATE[250,1,0]. The logs taken with this setting will have 4 entries every second, all 4 with the same timestamp.
According to 'musial' there is another potential problem: the controller to do the logging is connected to the GPS at only 9600 bps, so you will probably be forced to reduce the protocols sent by the GPS. He suggests GPRMC=1, GPGGA=1, GPGSA=16, GPGSV=16.
It's probably easier and safer to use a Pocker-PC to do the logging. |

| Interesting... I was able to make my i.Trek Z1 log @ 2Hz today. I set the receiver to update every 500ms, then I set the logger to record data points every 100 meters and every time the speed was above 100kph. I then turned on the logging feature and drove 20+ miles on the freeway. I just downloaded my log and I have two data points for every second, each with a slightly different set of coordinates. I certainly wasn't traveling faster than 100 meters / second, so the option to log any time my velocity was greater than 100kph must have been the trigger. |

| I had already set things up for 4Hz for my drive to work. I set the receiver to update every 250ms and told it log any data at speeds greater than 20km/h. It seems to have worked out really well. I can even see my lane changes on the freeway in Google Earth. I'll try 5Hz on my way home tonight, but I imagine that if 4Hz works, 5Hz will work as well. |

Thanks ... but a question. Your gps log the complete set of sentences? Can you choise the sentence to be log, example only $GPRMC?

The logger tool allows you to specify which NMEA sentences to record. The choices given are GGA, GGL, GSA, GSV, RMC, VTG, and ZDA (or any combination of these). When I choose to save my log as an NMEA file, I do indeed see the $GPRMC, but when I clear all options and only select RMC, it also forces GGA, GSA, GSA, and GSV with the RMC value. However, my log file only shows $GPGLL, $GPRMC, $GPZDA, and $GPVTG.
FYI - I have millisecond time stamps enabled and am seeing unique time stamps for each and every entry. |

@lyletanner I don't speak german, is it the 'musial' method ? The included software doesn't allow values < 1s. How do you set the i.Trek Z1 to update every 500ms ?
Edit : I found ! My i.Trek Z1 is now transmetting 5Hz signal over bluetooth I downloaded GPSview : http://www.transystem.com.tw/pdf_gps/Tool_iGPS-M%20Pro_Rev1.0.3.zip from transystem and connected my GPS to usb (com3 parameter for my case), click on the 'On' button and after a second of connection I have an error :
'58.1' is not a valid floating point value The transmitted gps paquets stops but the connection is still up ! Go to Setup and choose 'Fix update rate' to the Hz value you want and finally clic on the Set button. With the Z1 connected by bluetooth to my (nokia n800) device I could see in real time the difference !
Edit2 : Just change the Windows® regionnal setting separator coma ',' in point '.' to avoid the error. |
