You need to scrape off the green coating exposing bare copper before soldering.

I know that. I just can't do this type of "precision" soldering. I've already destroyed one mount trying.

Can DoctorT's photos be reposted? I was about to modify my cradle but I can no longer view his pictures on either my PC or my PS3. Help. Thanks

Thanks for your speedy reply. That did work, however, they are not the photos that I was searching for. The pics I was looking for showed wiring and descriptions of all the pins on both sockets. I think that it was on page 2 of this thread. There is no longer anything to click on, just a request to post smaller photos.

Sorry about the mess with the large pictures.
I was not aware that they could not exceed 640x480.
Alle pictures can be found here

Thanks for the link. The problem is that larger pictures stretch the page, requiring users to scroll left/right to read every single line of text in all other messages on that page.

Thanks DoctorT. I think I have what I need. Did you open the case by pushing the screwdriver through the opening as in one of your photos?

Yes, do it like shown on the picture, but gently.
If you do it from the outside you will risk making scratches on the case and you might push the screwdriver through your hand, leaving blood on the case, which is even worse :-)

I have been reading this forum and doing some research on my own, I opened my charger cable to my 760 and saw that the rest of the pins were cut off so they would be hard to solder, saw a few posts trying the VIB 11, so I looked it up, one user found that he did have the sound coming out of the base although it was a little distorted, garmin sells a replacement unit cable for this device, 010-10968-01 is the number for the cable but it shows as not available online, this cable has at least some kind of audio output, anyone think this thing could be pulled apart to creat a "one connection" power cable/audio output?

Anyone here know of a place in Vegas that could do the soldering for me?

I found that my Nuvi 760 contains L & R analog audio on pins 6 & 8 (as I recall) on the cradles' DC power socket however the audio is only present when a plug is inserted into the headphone socket. Modify the DC power plug to extract these 2 pins and a ground wire and plug a non wired 3.5mm stereo plug into the headphone jack. Cover the 3.5mm plug with some black heatshrink so its not so obvious. Route the new power plug audio connections to your car audio aux input and the job is done

You can enable the FM transmitter. Then you do not need the Jack plug.

Hi all,

thanks for gorgeous work in this thread to all and DoctorT in particular.

Did a search on available connectors and came up with this:

http://de.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=searchProducts&searchTerm=623-6340&x=0&y=0#header

As it seems - Garmin uses "standard" JAE connectors for the Nuvi cradle.

The corresponding datasheets can be downloaded from

From the pictures DoctorT posted at http://roerby.dk/pictures/garmin/garmin.zip (thanks again !) #8211; I assume we now should be able to do a Y-adapter with JAE 18-pin plugs at each side and a 3.5mm audio out as well.

Will probably give it a try soon.
