By the way, Core Player (www.coreplayer.com) runs great on the Clarion. Awesome for watching DivX movies and TV shows. I never would of guessed this thing would be able to play full res video so well but it does.

And for people try to play games and things, make sure you have GAPI. I think its available from www.WinCESoft.de Its like DirectX for WinCE. Bit of a pain in the ass cause you have to have the GX.dll and whatever else in the same directory as the exe, but it makes things work.

PS, for those who don't know yet, you can access regular WindowsCE by holding the lower button (the one that isn't the power button) down after a soft (or hard) reset. Try to avoid hard resets (thats holding the power button for 6 seconds), because it wipes out anything you did in CE.

My question is concerning accessing the WinCE content on the Clarion NICE 430. I have tried to hold down the nav button after both soft and hard resets but do not get access to the WinCE content. The screen locks up with the Clarion name on a blue background. On the bottom of the screen, a grey band approx 2mm wide appears, as though the WinCE page is about to come up, but it does not. Tapping the stylus on the screen elicits an audible 'tap' response from the unit and one can drag a kind of 'text select' box on the screen with the stylus, but it does nothing and disappears as soon as the stylus leaves the screen. Any thoughts ?

Go to Mobile Device > My Flash Disk and rename the "Clarion" directory to "Clarion2", or delete it since you won't need it anymore. When you get the new software rename its main directory from "iGo" (or whatever its called) to "Clarion" and put it in the My Flash Disk directory. Now go into the Clarion directory and rename NavnGo.exe to Clarion.exe

Now for the maps. Download all the new ones you can find (or just the ones you want). You can put some of them in Mobile Device > My Flash Disk > Clarion > Maps , But you'll run out of space quick. Buy a 4GB SD card and put the rest on there. I don't know if SDHC (High Capacity) cards work with it, but I have a feeling they won't. If you try one and it does, let me know :) Do yourself a favor and buy a USB2.0 card reader, because the USB port on the Clarion is NOT USB2.0, and will take you about 3 days to transfer all the maps to the SD card.

You're done. Reset the device and click the big Navigation button when it comes up.

You will be missing the bluetooth button in the new iGo software. I'm working on putting it back in, even though I never used it, its just nice to not lose features. Other than that, everything works perfect.

Enjoy!

Hi!

Did you maneged to make bluetooth to work with the new iGo?

Thanks!

For anyone who is interested, I got the WinCE to come up on the Clarion NICE 430. It will ONLY be accessible after a hard reset on my system. No matter what I do, it remains inaccessible when I do a soft reset. Still, I can get into Windows on it and that's been very helpful. It's crazy why they don't offer more options with these devices as they could very easily be a great PDA/PNA with minimal tweaks and a bit more memory. Anyway.... another development is that I have been able to install an I GO 8 trial version and it works great, except that it is for PDA's and I am having trouble getting the display to a) orient itself in landscape and b) operate on a 480 X 272 display..... I'll keep at it. Also, I discovered a complete Clarion NICE 430 download at rapidshare (http://rapidshare.com/files/107505771/Clarion_NICE_430.rar.html). If anyone in Europe in particular wants to do a North American SD Card setup for their Map 670/770 it will probably work... I wonder if there are any Map 670/770 full Europe setups out there !!! Getting back to the I GO 8 Trial, I gotta say I am not super impressed. It's neat but not as interesting as I had hoped. Maybe the full release version is superior as the screen grabs I've seen from the full release certainly appear to pack more information than the trial version does.... Lastly, I hope some others in this community will help me in developing the CLARION part of this site. I am pretty satisfied with my unit and have found that most of the shortcomings I thought it had were a result of my ignorance. Happy navigating everyone!

tsilviu, so far I haven't had much luck with adding Bluetooth back in. Its kind of strange. The icon is already there, and I can change the scripting files enough to make the button show up, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe some day I'll figure it out, or maybe someone better at it than me can figure it out sooner :)

I have to use a Clarion MAP 670 for work, living in the EU. As we are not able to update the maps on the MAP 670, I decided to follow Lordfly's advice and replace the Clarion software with the IGO8. It works a treat (even the blue tooth) and I was able to load the most recent and most frequently used maps on the GPS flash drive. I now however would like to load the remainder of the maps on a SD card. All my attempts so far for the GPS unit to pick the maps up on the storage card was unsuccessful. Is there a special way of doing it, and if so can anyone please be so kind as to inform me how?

The update on the site is for the gen1 7" nice unit; not the 430. There is no update available from clarion for the 430. That's why I sold mine.

I just put my maps on the SD card in a directory called "Maps" and it seems to read them all just fine. Make sure you put the SD card in before starting the program though. You might have to put the SD card in and exit the program, then start it again. Other than that I don't know why you'd have any problems.

Hi. I just recently got a nice 430 and in general, I am pleased with my NICE so far. I see you have a possible answers for some of my questions:
1 - Having WinCE will allow me to use PDA features like contacts, scheduling, etc?
2 -would having WinCE will screw the bluetooth ability?
3 - How do I perform a hard reset on the nice 430?
4 - So is iGo 8 only for PDAs? Even the full version?
5 - any other insights?
Thanks

MAP colors, Original software only (so far)
a Clarion NICE 430 Psycogeek color scheme, needs testing.

I just got 2 clarions cheap, i really like the skin and style, and the allowances to adjust all the right things, and it , , , well it was cheap :-) and it jumps into CE with a push of a button, although it doesnt have all the CE parts, it will run a video player, and lots of games and all.

so (as usual) it wasnt "good enough" to just use it (heck i dont even drive much) so i had to hack up the color scheme, to a crasy color coded thing, that probably only makes sence to me :-)

FIrst i MARKED up the color.ini itself so YOU :-) can adjust anything, now (somewhat) knowing what it belongs to.

Freeways are salmony redish,
main highways and throuroughfares are in the yellows (but 3 types of yellow to define the different types)
Main through roads are green
lesser through roads are cyan
residentials type through roads are bluish
then roads that dont go through are a muted majenta
roads that dead end totally, are unpaved and railroads are Red
Roads that are worse than those, are red gray, and mostly muted.

International stuff, i dont know about at all, so this is a USA type of scheme, i have no way of testing or knowing what happens in albania.

the Base colors are BLack, and VERY dark muted
Metro dark brown
water has 3 designation streams/rivers are brighter so they show up well
whole oceans are darkest so they dont get in the way
and the other Terrain type base items (there is no actual terrain) are severly muted dark.

parks and forests have 3 designations
city type parks are dark green
national stuff is purpleish (to designate it)
forests and park stuff is dark cyan type green
the software doesn't define this stuff perfectally (what does), but with these settings i could find the "Type" of park recreation easily even zoomed out, gotta walk that dog, take a break and all huh :-)

The arrow is red, along with the road turn arrow, it doesnt seem to conflict with the No-Go streets

the Path (you take) is muted WHITE, but you can still barely see the color of the roads the path is on.

Road sign text, and highway signs, and road text and setlement (cities) text are all bright, and have blackened outlines (done by the software itself)

the CURSER, it still stuffed as a cyan, i wanted to make it red, but it didnt show up well, and i didnt change ANY parts of the skin, this is JUST a Scheme.

when your zoomed back the whole map stands out like a sore thumb, but (by the software) the smaller things still darken up as they go to small.

Disclaimer:
the scheme is Intended to improve the visibility of a night scheme, but it wont improve your driving, and you WILL still have to lower the backlight , probably ALL THE WAY down. the scheme is high in contrast to the bleeding edge, and it could mess with your vision, in that respect you should REMOVE the scheme from your PNA if you feel it can in any way effect your vision or your ability to drive.
I just adjusted a few numbers, for Myself, and make this available, i am not responcible for any way you use it that would increase your risks while driving.
If you cant do it safely , and dont know what or how to do it , DON'T.

To install on your clarion Nice-430

sync with ActiveSync
in the Microsoft active sync, press the explore icon
browse your way to , \My Flash Disk\Clarion\SCHEME
Copy the supplied ZIP file to that folder.
(no need to unzip it, the Igo/clarion works with the zip)

to USE (see disclaimer)
when In the map screen of the nice-430
go to the menu
go to MAIN (escaping the map sorta)
Then go to SETTINGS on the main screen
then go to MAP (options)
then push on the "Color Profile" you would like to change (day or night)
then load the PSYCOnight scheme
then hit the arrow button on the left to get back.

http://rapidshare.com/files/178074399/PsycoNight.ZIP.html
(tiny file size, only 10 downloads spots available)

Day Version of High contrast extreeme color scheme, not much changes, but between the brighter stuff, brighter base, and the Backlight change, it works.
http://rapidshare.com/files/178074774/PsycoDay.ZIP.html
(tiny file size, only 10 downloads spots available)

Drive safely, your the only one of you we got :-)

BT Dialer Colors skin

THis next one is just as wild :-)

so your driving down the road, and a phone call comes in, POW, this overly bright screen comes on, because they dont have a seperate skin for the phones night and day. so they mandate "handsfree" around here, and then the PND blows you in the face with light instead, a real improvement :-(.
Then of cource I put in a bunch of crasy color coding, and even added Text (english only) to the icons, because they are so poorly representative of what is going on. and the lesser brainey of us here need all the assist they can get.

sooo, i hacked up the NICE 430's BT Phones skin, which is inside a DLL.
this gets a bit more technical, and harder to retract, even though nothing is changed that can cause any permenent damage.

the original skin resides in the actual ROM (permanent memory), in the windows directory, but if you put a "replacement" of the same name in the RAM (in the same windows directory) the one in ram is used first.

so you toss this DLL in the ram (windows folder), and restart (not hard boot) and it will become the phones skin.

The dialer that uses the skin runs at Startup, so it then "locks" the skin (dll) up so it cannot be removed, until you task end the dialer.

SO to install:
UNzip the compressed files, put them on a storage card
move them from the storage card, to the windows directory
everytime you Hard reset the device, they will be GONE
they stay when you use the stylus soft reset though.

TO uninstall:
toss them off your storage card (thats a given)
task end any task that is Using them First
use a file manager like Total command, hide the ROM, and toss out the files from the ram.
Hard Reset the device :-( and they also go.

http://rapidshare.com/files/178600061/NiceSkinStuff.zip.html
(1.7Meg ZIP with five files, uncompressed is about 5Megs)

THe ZIP also includes the Main Shell skin, the settings skin, the audio player skin, and the low battery skin, but there is a Few reasons you mignt not want to bother with them.
1) everything you toss into the ram takes up ram space, these sorta kinda want to be in ram, so if you have other Stuff installed, and not moved to the storage card, this cute changes take up valuable ram.
2) there really isnt that much changes made to the other skins, and i dont care, its just what i wanted to "Code" it for my quick operation of them.
3) THe other things DONT get in your face WHILE driving, the phone dialer Blueteeth thing does, and so i spent the most time getting it correct, so no more nuclear afterglow from a phone call :-)

I am the Night Rider, stay safe.
