Updated 08/23 by GpsPasSion : Garmin have reinstated their "old" Map Update policy for GPS units, see this thread for more details. and if you purchased your GPS unit after 04/11/2007 you will get a free update by calling them
Updated 08/17 by Danham : CN NT version 2008 update now listed in myGarmin. See page 22 of this thread
Updated 06/22 by GpsPasSion : it seems that Garmin has been listening and that they may be in the process of reviewing their map update policy, more about that here on page 7.
Note by GpsPasSion : the 2008 maps first appeared on the nüvi 200 (see picture below), but have since appeared on the nüvi 660 and 350 as well, if you have a nüvi with 2008 maps, post a message in this thread.
I casually mentioned my map version in another thread and apparently this is 'breaking news'... lol. I just got my 200 this week via Amazon.com (sold by Amazon) for $310 shipped and it came with the new maps. I was surprised that the version was actually a year ahead as I'm usually the guy that always gets stuck with an old map version and then fight for an upgrade.
I will work on posting a screenshot for you guys. There is no indication on the outside of the box that the newest maps are included for what it's worth.

Good...
BTW, if you go to the Screen setup under the tools section, you can tell the Nuvi to eneble the screenshot function, which will capture the image on the disk. |

So they've moved from v9 to v2008, guess it looks "sexier", not to mention, er...anticipated. Confusing even since at best they are using Navteq Q1/2007.1 maps or worse Q4/2006 |

Europe was also using v9 last time I checked, where you have seen "2008 CN Europe" maps ?? I really hope they are using Q1/2007 Navteq maps (not available on other GPS systems at this time) to half deserve the 2008 name...

I recently got a NUVI 200 with the v8 NA maps (same day as the post). After reading the forum I sent a quick note to Garmin tech support two days ago and here's the response I received today:
"I am happy to help you with this. Your Gps unit currently has the most up to date map data available. The next release will be approximately the summer of 2007 @ $75.00. You can order an update DVD from http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp , then click on the Order Now button, however keep in mind a newer version then what you already have pre-loaded is not available at this time. I have also provided a link below to report map errors and missing data to Garmin, this allows us to pass along such discrepancies to our mapping provider Navteq."
So I don't know if they renamed v8 or what? From what they say v8 NA is the most current version. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks |

This is the same for City Navigator Europe NT v9 I did get it on my Nüvi 660 one month before Garmin did announce it on it's site. Before it's announced no one at Garmin can talk about it. |

@truthiness
Hello, I just picked up a 200 and it has the v8 maps on it. I noticed that on the box to the left of the UPC there is a small "v8" turned sideways. If you still have your box, could you check to see if yours says V9? If so, then maybe I'll just have to go look through the store inventory to find a good one. :)
Thanks! |

Just got a Nuvi 200 from Sears today (Fathers Day sale for $350). I checked to make sure it had the 2008 maps right after I purchased it (the sales clerk said I could return it if it didn't), and it did: City Navigator Lower 48 States NT 2008.
No "v8" or "2008" anywhere on the box, including next to the UPC. It is a box. I have seen these sold in Best Buy in one of those theft-proof blister packs. |

Well I finally registered and thought I could chime in. I bought a nuvi 200 from Linen's N Things in the US (Texas). I have version 8 NT. Here is all the info from the UPC area
PART 010-00621-22 (printed above UPC) nuvi 200, North America (printed above UPC, below PART Number) UPC 7 53759 06831 8 v8 is printed sideways to the left of the UPC
To the left of the UPC, has 007-01213-22 Rev. A printed.
Package was a blister pack (with the 200 displayed outside the box), not the small box (with the 200 inside the box).
Hope this helps. Looks like I may have to exchange it . . .
David

Thanks for the responses.
I have part number 010-00621-10 and nuvi 200, North America above the bar code. v8 is printed sideways to the left of the bar code. This is one of the small boxes.
To anyone who has gotten the 2008 maps, can you share any info that would help finding the right box? Based on the above responses, it seems that it being packaged in a box or blister pack makes no difference. jonathanuy, you said there was no v8 next to the UPC? Maybe that's what needs to be missing to get the new maps.

| My 660 arrived from Costco last Thursday, and has the v8 maps - not the 2008. |
