Hello, I bought the new Mio c520t. It is really a good thing, but i want to unlock it to use it for other things like a PDA.
Can anyone tell me how to unlock it?

Well so far, there is no way to unlock the C520t as replacing the miomap.exe does not let you run other apps like a file explorer that would be required to get things started.
No specific skins either, there are a few tricks in the FRA forums, but lets stick to unlockinkg in this thread you started. |

There is a miomap.exe.id file. That'll be the key, I think, which ensures, that changed exe won't run. It contains: ÙkRÇð%â¯Ð#152;

This can be done easily.
As a matter of fact, Mio has probably made it a "standard" after they realized that an "open" platform can bring all kinds of free resources (and better sales) because they even name it "MioAutoRun". Here is the hint.
Put a MioAutoRun.exe in the root of \Storage Card.
Power off then on, MioAutoRun will execute no matter it's a hard or soft reset.
If you want it to run only after hard reset, just use a modified C310Auto script and create a registry file to change the call to "launcher.exe", i.e., you may want to copy "taskbar.exe" to \Windows first, so instead of calling "Launcher.exe" there, you will replace it with "Taskbar.exe".
If I have a 520 / 720 with me, I can better test the script for everyone. |

| Are you saying that gsexplorer.exe renamed to MioAutoRun.exe will execute ? I gave it a try and did a reset (no soft/hard reset buttons on the C520, just a long hold) and it booted straigh into the usual menu. Maybe I'm missing something. |

A friend of mine tested on a Mio C720t and it worked by power off / on the unit.
You can try to take out the SD card and insert it in again with C520t on. |

| I must be doing something wrong then, or other files are needed on the SD card, or maybe it needs to be formatted in a specific way because it boots straight into the usual menu. What app had he renamed to MioAutoRun.exe ? |

I'm planning on picking up the C520 today, I imagine any difficulty unlocking the c520t would apply to the regular c520 as well?
Video is fairly important to me, as I drive around with an Elmo-obsessed two-year-old in the back seat. I'm praying the C520 will eventually be unlocked. |

The US versions have video playback feature. There is a dedicated icon which enables video playback. Thats apparently another difference between the two (EU/US) versions. |

| Well the catch is that without ActiveSync or access to the device to run apps, I'm not sure how you can extract part of the registry ? ;-) Hopefully there is a key/screen combination of sorts like on the C310x. |

From other post, it seems one can use MioTransfer to access Mio Cx20 file structures.
Like the old days, can't someone replace one of those exe files with RegEdit or CECMD?
