The debugmenu says: "[Error] Write stream is closed". I think bt747 can't access the phone for some reason.

The savepath is c:/bt747.bin

Any idea how I can solve this?

Hi

I think the C path is the internal memory of your phone and you can probably not write in the root location (I did not test on my phone).
You can change the location through "App Settings / Working Dir". You'll be able to move through the existing directories. On 'C', I have Private and Data.

Personnally I use 'E:' which is my memory card, but you may not have one.

It is working!! I just had to select my memorycard instead of my phone memory. Finally. However, the program keeps asking for writing permission. Now I am trying to install a halmer certificate.

Unfortunately the Halmer certificate will not work on Nokia phones (it does not work for me).
There are some instructions to hack Nokia phones. I did not try those.

Hello.

I received my 747A+ logger today at the office and the first thing I did was download BT747. I installed it (latest stable version) on my Mac Pro (following all the instructions), plugged in the 747A+, hit connect (via USB) and all good. So, I started logging...

When I got home I installed BT747, now on my home iMac, again, following all instructions. But, this time I plugged in the 747A+, hit connect, and nothing. I've gone through the install process over and over, I've unplugged all my USB devices, tried different cables, etc. and I just can't get BT747 to connect to the 747A+.

Here's the weird part though. I use HoudahGeo (http://www.houdah.com) to link up my GPS logs to my photos and if I use that program it has no problem finding the 747A+. So, I know the USB cable is OK, the 747A+ is OK and that a connection from the device to my iMac is working. But, for some reason, I just can't get BT747 to "connect" to it.

I used BT747 on my machine at work this afternoon and I think it's an excellent program so I'm REALLY hoping I can get it to work on my machine at home!
Both machines are Intel Mac computers running the most current versions of the same software (basically, other than processor, the two machines are identical in software [including OS].

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!
I've included debug information below if that may help!?!?

Thanks,
Kristin.

You can enter the right port in this list next to the Connect button.
None of these are recognized automatically by BT747 as a GPS port (no known names).
What port do you have on the other computer for the GPS?

Well, I was writing the below email just as you posted that! 8)

...

Just a follow-up to my post.

I was finally able to get BT747 to connect to my 747A+ (on my iMac that I was having trouble with), but, to get it to work, in the application, where you select the connection method (ie. USB, Bluetooth, or the various COM options), I had to manually enter "/dev/cu.usbmodem5d10", and then, when I clicked "connect", it worked. But, leaving it set to "USB (for Linux, Mac)" and clicking "connect" would never connect? So, it works, just not as expected (and when I got into the office this morning, I tried again on the Mac Pro and leaving it set to "USB (for Linux, Mac)" worked fine). But, I'm just glad it's working.

So, I have a few questions about BT747 that I'm wondering if people could answer for me. I've read through the documentation, but a few things are still a little unclear to me.

1. Is it possible to change where the settings file it stored? For me, it always sits in the root of my user home folder.

2. Is it possible to change the location of where the raw log file and converted files are output to? I know the option is there to change the directory, but when I do so, when I try to convert to another format (GPX, KML, etc.) I get an error saying there was nothing to convert? But, if I reset to the default locations, download the log again and convert, it works fine. (I haven't tested using 2.x yet).

3. I'm mainly using my 747A+ on foot. In device settings, I've modified my "Log by..." settings to better suit travel by foot, but the settings for "Precision" confuse me a little. Right now it's set to the default "GPS Fix Type" — would I be better of changing this to something else? And on that note, are there any other settings that are suggested to be changed from the default application settings in general (again, I'm mainly concerned with getting good results on foot, typically in a forest)?

I think that's it for now.
Again, thanks for this application — it's brilliant! I love being able to have the ability to do this on my Mac!

Regards,
Kristin.

0. Good that you got it to work. I may add the new kind of path to my 'valid' mac list.
1. Yes, if you use the zip file to install BT747 and change the startup script: -Dbt747_settings=pathtosettings
2. I guess that you need to download again (source binary must exist). From your context it does not look like you played with the filter settings that can equally be a reason.
3. The GPS Fix Type will not change the precision, only report on the method used (No fix, SPS, DGPS, PPS, ...). You can actually drop that and use HDOP or PDOP instead and add a filter to require minimum value of 1.97.

By the way: there is also a version for the phone and another one for PDA! These are good when you are 'on the road'.

For the blackberry, there is a '.cod' file in the zip distribution.
I do not know how to get it on the phone.

Hey — I installed and used (on the road) this weekend on my BlackBerry Storm.
For me, I could not get the .cod file to work, but I also had the .jad and .jar on my BB and when I launched the .jad it "downloaded" and installed just fine!
Overall, the apps works great — the UI is a bit qwerky, but I assume that might have something to do with the Storm's touchscreen?
All in all though, worked like a charm and will be a huge asset for me over the summer (as I was worried how I was going to store my logs on the 747A+ when on the road without a computer — but, being able to download to the BB's memory card has solved that problem!
THANKS!!!!
k.

Good news!

There are several exceptions for blackberry in the GUI Framework, so it could be that some 'quirks' are still there. You can use left/right to go through the menus. I am not able to try the 'touchscreen' functionality (there is maybe a model in the emulator that can, but I do not know which one).

You can always share the problems you see and I'll see what I can do about it.

What version did you use?

Well, let me explain what I mean by "qwerky".

First, I've tested using both the latest "stable" and latest "dev" (with the dev being what's on my device right now) on BT747 and the results are the same. I've tested in two "modes" on the BlackBerry Storm — "normal" (ie. what apps normally run in) and "compatibility" (ie. a mode you can run apps in that aren't coded for the Storm — basically, an on-screen keyboard is always present and moving your finger up and down on the screen replicates the scroll-ball/wheel — it's kinda like running an "emulation" of a normal BlackBerry with physical keyboard, etc.).

In both modes, everything runs fine in terms of the program itself, it's just the GUI/Navigation that's a bit off. I'll break my findings down depending on the mode I'm running the app in.

Normal Mode - When in the menu, I can't "scroll" up and down through the various menu options and touching the screen automatically registers as a selection. It makes it difficult to select a menu option as you have no visual feedback what you're selecting — as soon as you press the screen, you're shot to the sub-menu of the menu item you pressed. It works fine, but given the sensitivity of the touch screen/size of the menus/size of my fingers, I find I'm making incorrect selections as much as I'm making correct ones.

Compatibility Mode - This works more like I image it's supposed to work (on a regular BlackBerry). I can scroll through menu items, etc. and navigation is a lot more precise as a result (as I choose the menu item first, then press the screen to actually make the selection). The only "qwerk" here is, when I make a selection then press the screen (replicating the pressing of the scroll-ball/wheel), the BlackBerry always asks me to confirm my selection (so I have to select OK) before going to the sub-menu I'm trying to get to. So, it's always two presses to get to where I want to go.

Overall, both modes work, though I find compatibility mode works better (while it takes to presses to get to where I want to go, it's more precise in terms of making my selections, etc.).

Anyway, I dunno if this helps at all, but I figured you might be interested in my experience.

Thanks,
Kristin.

I downloaded the latest version onto my BB Storm and tried the AGPS function. Are the username and password Transystem gave you supposed to be auto-populated into the app yet? For some reason, I though you said it had been? Or, is it the desktop version only right now?
