Looks like TomTom has just released/announced another new set of maps. All the details are here:
http://www.tomtom.com/news/category.php?ID=4&NID=355&Language=1
And
http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/promo.php
BTW, this kind of stinks for folks in the USA who just received their update discs for the v6.65 maps. Now TomTom has gone and released newer v6.75 maps and we're left holding old maps that we only just received. I wonder if TomTom is going to offer the v6.75 maps to us for free???
Also, my father-in-law just bought a TomTom 910 like three days ago and we just sent away for the map upgrade disc. I wonder if TomTom will send him the new v6.75 maps or the older v6.65 maps? His 910 came pre-loaded with the old v6.50 maps.
I'm glad to see TomTom updating their maps on a regular basis, but I sure hope that they do right by their current customers on this one. |

Yes, good catch on the new maps, was about to post a thread myself.
Hard to keep everyone happy, but remember that most people got the v6.65 maps for free, so it still wasn't a bad deal.
As for the 910, the v6.65 were not compatible with the 910 in theory, so he should be getting the v6.75 maps.
By the way the v6.75 maps are TeleAtlas 2007.01 |

| I can't believe these maps are free for the USA and Canada. Us Europeans are getting screwed again. It's going to cost me €200($272) to upgrade all the maps on my 910. |

| I just bought a new TomTom One here in the US and it comes with map version 6.665.1293. When I connected to TomTom home the program did not offer me the ability to upgrade these maps. |

I'm also not too sure about the free update for USA users on the new maps at this point. For one, every single time I go to TomTom's web site to look at the maps section, it's not functioning. Secondly, when I did finally get through (once in the last three days), it asked me to enter the serial number for my (father-in-law's) brand new TomTom 910, and then it simply told me that the serial number has already been used and has been locked. I ordered the map update DVD the day before TomTom announced the new 2007-1 maps (which is probably why it's telling me that the serial number has been locked) and so it will be interesting to see what map version I receive. I'm guessing that they will be the (now) older v6.65 maps, but I'll let you all know for sure when the DVD arrives.
Lastly, what about the European maps on the TomTom Go 910? Since the 910 comes with both USA and Europe maps, is it right that for a brand new TomTom USA user to get stuck with the older European maps? Hmm... We'll have to see how this one plays out over time. |

I've been trying to get these map updates but everytime it says :- The TomTom shop is currently unavailable due to maintenance. Our apologies for the inconvenience. Please try again in a few hours.
Anyone else have any luck getting these maps? |

The update DVD arrived in today's mail, and sure enough, it's for the older 665 maps.
No love for brand new Go 910 owners from TomTom I guess.
Oh well, I hope others have better luck than I do with TomTom. |

| I just purchased my first standalone gps (had gps with a laptop), purchased a 910. I had the same issues with receiving the new map. You just need to keep trying, I finally was able to get through on the website and downloaded the new map on Friday night (4-20-07). You just need to keep trying, it will finally work. |

You mean that TomTom's web site actually let you download the new North America 675 map for your 910 for free? If so, how in the world did you do it??? I'm now able to access their web site, but every time I enter in my 910's serial number, it simply tells me:
"Your serial code has already been used (permanently locked)"
After that, it won't let move foreward and doesn't even offer to let me buy the maps or anything???
I'm stumped.
BTW, did you order the 2006 maps update DVD for your 910 as well? |

Oddly enough, I received TWO responses to my single technical support request on this one from TomTom (the last two times I've e-mailed them a technical support request, I never heard anything back from them at all and so I guess this is a welcome change). Anyway... It appears that they are denying that the new 6.75 maps even exist for North America (or at least the maps haven't made their way through the support channels yet). I find it very strange that the web site can be up-to-date for the European side and behind on the USA side. I realize that TomTom is a European-based company, but it doesn't seem fair that folks who live in Europe can purchase and use newer maps for North America than the folks who actually live in North America can. Ah well, I guess I should have provided a link to the new 6.75 maps on their own web site. I give up. BTW, here's what TomTom's support sent me:
"Thank you for contacting TomTom Support regarding the map version installed in your TomTom GO 910. We are happy to help!
TomTom has not released any other North America maps, if you have version 6.65 then you definately have the latest maps.
Our most sincere apologies for the incoviniences caused."
AND
"Thank you for contacting us regarding the way to get the latest maps in your TomTom GO 910. We are more than happy to assist you.
We have not released any update of the US and Canada maps, our latest maps version is v665.1294. If you have the version v665.1294 in your TomTom maps, the system will keep giving you this message "Your serial code has already been used (permanently locked)" because you already have the latest maps.
We apologize for any inconvenience."
My original support request:
"I just purchased a brand new Go 910 last week (serial number <snip>) and I would like to obtain the latest North America version 675.1409 map for it. I assume that you offer the latest maps for free to those that just purchased one of your units. Correct?
Note that I used the TomTom web site to order the free map update DVD, but what arrived was the older 665.1294 North America maps and not the new v6.75 maps. Now anytime I try to get the latest map (as a download) from your web site, it simply refuses to show me the maps and just tells me:
"Your serial code has already been used (permanently locked)"
Is there any way for me to obtain the new North America 675.1409 map for my brand new TomTom Go 910?
Thanks for your help." |

I called and spoke with customer service and was told that the v675 maps are newer that what I have (v.665.1293) and they are downloadable. Because of all the confusing posts on this web site (and others) I asked if she was sure about it and the answer was positive. She went on to say where to go to find and download the new maps. Well, it did not work and my experience was pretty much the same as the previous post. So I called back; a different representative got on the phone and I got a different answer. She told me I have the latest maps and she did not know anything about new maps for NA. I even directed her to this web site and she looked up the news item announcing the v.675. It was news to her. After all this I gave up on chasing this.
By the way I am in the US and try to stick to the TT US website but during browsing it always ends up jumping back to the UK website for some reason. I asked about that too and was told that they (US office) has no control over this. Anyone else is experiencing this? It is very annoying. |

BOY! This TomTom Go 910 just keeps getting better and better... Not only can we not get the latest maps for the thing, but I've just realized that the darn thing is infected with two separate viruses straight from the factory. I plugged it into my PC and my virus scanner went bizzerk. I sure do feel really good about this purchase now. Way to go TomTom!
BTW, apparently this is old news as TomTom has openly (and apparently very reluctantly) admitted that the 910's are indeed infected with viruses (although it was new news for me and it didn't make me very happy when I found out):

There's no way I'm giving this thing to my father-in-law now. It's going back to Dell and we're going to get him a Garmin instead.
See ya TomTom! Give your viruses to someone else please. |

Just for closure purposes, I wanted to let folks know that I've called up Dell and they have agreed to refund my purchase price in full for the Go 910 unit (including the shipping charges I paid), and they're paying the return shipping costs to send the unit back to them as well. I filed a complaint with them stating that the TomTom Go 910 units they are selling are virus infected and they have apologized for my inconvenience (no real harm done on my end other than disappointment and time lost messing around with TomTom tech support). I'm very happy that I purchase the unit from Dell (instead of some fly-by-night company) as they do indeed stand behind the products they sell (even when the manufacturer doesn't).
So... I'm off to buy my father-in-law a Garmin nuvi and I won't be doing business with TomTom again I'm afraid. It's too bad as the Go 910 really has a lot to offer for a great price (hundreds less than a similarly equipped Garmin unit), but I'm afraid that I just can't tolerate these types of issues with a product I've purchased. I realize that no company is perfect, but I'd prefer to take my business elsewhere on this one.
Good luck everyone with your new v6.75 maps and I'm sorry for going off-topic on this one. |

| Since I bought my Go 910 about 5 weeks ago, I have visited TomTom's website every few days. I never saw any announcement about 2007 maps for the USA; I suspect the 2007 map update story was a false rumor. Within a few days of buying the 910, I saw TomTom's announcement that the "new" 2006 maps were available free for recent buyers of TomTom GPS units. I ordered the map update DVD on-line (paying only the $6 shipping cost), and received it four days later; (a pleasent surprise, considering that TomTom's estimate for delivery was 4 to 6 weeks). I have called TomTom's tech support twice, and was only put on hold very briefly (once for 30 seconds, and once for 3 minutes). With Garmin, I was sometimes on hold for 30 minutes, with frequent repetition of the annoying message "Your call is important to us", bla, bla, bla! So far, my experience has been that TomTom is more customer friendly than Garmin. My 910 also performs better than my Garmin 2720 and Nuvi 350! |

I too have the TT6 version 665.1294 from a Jan/Feb upgrade. Entering its product code into TomTom.com also returned the following message:
"Yes, the map in your device is one of the latest available. This map supports a navigation experience up to TomTom standards."
Unlike in the past, it was fairly easy to get to their tech support this time. The gentleman acknowledges that 675 is newer, but says probably not "much newer". He says this is a quarterly update that they are not used to. Essentially he cannot tell me any difference between the two.
June 15 is the free upgrade deadline for "eligible customers".
Perplexing indeed. |

Hiya,
I got the new Central Europe map (v675.1409)...what a waste...Firstly; roads have gone missing..so the old version is better. Secondly the 7 digit post code is no more, you only get 4 digit, which means you cant search for a street via the post code anymore. Thirdly it keeps telling me to exit the motorway, go round the round-about then rejoin the motorway I was just on..not clever, and not funny.lol
Anyone else got any issues? I am mainly worried about the post code issue, as I use that a lot. Thanks! |
