Hi,
I really like the Garmin Topo maps on my Nuvi 350. They are not perfect but worth the $75 I paid. Anyway I created an East/Hawaii gmapsupp.img and saved it as gmapsupp.img on my Nuvi and it worked fine. I then made a West gmapsupp.img on my SD Card. I noticed the East/Hawaii regions worked fine but the West region would draw the Topo map then quickly clear it and show the base map. Argh.. it's there but it vanishes. I noticed other section of the West Topo did not display and just showed the base map.
I read about the 3950 map segment limit on the Nuvi posted by z.entropic and suspect that limit is what I am seeing. Is the limit for a single .img file or is the limit for a combined Nuvi and SD Card gmapsupp.img?
I guess I will work on a combined East/West/Hawaii (minus the flatlands in the Mid West) .img that is 3950 segments or less. |

You have two maps with the same filename, one on the nuvi and the other on the SD, and in another thread it has been found that it confuses the nuvi.
Create a single file, and put it on the SD. |

You can have two maps on the internal drive, one called gmapprom.img and one called gmapprom1.img. And on the SD-drive you can have one map called gmapsupp.img. In this way there will be three selectable maps avalible in the map selector tab. I have not tested the possibilty to have a map called gmapoem.img or something like that. The topic has been discussed elsewhere in the forum. Anyhow, three maps with alltogether 1.7 GB works fine for me.

I have a Nuvi 350 with the latest software (v4.30). When I switch the map name to gmapprom1.img I do not see the map under the MapInfo. I did try gmapoem.img and that did work. But there was no check box next to the map on the MapInfo screen so I could not disable that map.. Argh
I know a gmapsupp.img in the Nuvi and SD card works fine since I previously had the free world map on the SD card and the East/Hawaii Topo map on my Nuvi.
Ok so I am left with three problems:
1) Two big maps are both saved as gmapsupp.img one on the Nuvi the other on an SD card. I would like to know what the limit is.
2)How to get the checkbox to appear for the gmapoem.img?
3) Why does my Nuvi350 (v4.30) ignore gmapprom1.img? Does the gmapprom.sum have to be changed? Note I looked at the GUPDATE file in a hex editor and found gmapprom.img but no gmapprom1.img. I also tried gmapsupp1.img which did work either. |

On my 350 I have one each of gmapbmap and gmapprom in the main drive and gmapsupp on the SD card.
This gives me a basemap, which is not selectable, and CNNT v8 and Topos, which are.

I have the Worldmap basemap and gmapsupp.img (US Topo 100K; East, West, Alaska and Hawaii, with the middle 'flatland' cut out to keep the total number of mao segments at 3850 (3860 didn't work...))installed on the unit itself, and US Topo 25K Nat. Parks West installed as gmapsupp.img on a 2 GB SD card.
This combination has worked for me just fine since last summer, but there have been reports (by SergeZak) that moving from SW 3.8 (where I still am) to newer version(s) will limit the number of map segments that can be present in a topo IMG file.
Please post here how many segments you have in your IMG files and the version of SW and FW you have installed on your nuvi 350; maybe we can finally figure out if the above-mentioned bug has been fixed in newer SW updates.

I was using software v4.30 and now using v4.40. Both levels have the same result. Is there reason you have v3.8?
On the nuvi 350: gmapsupp.img - East and Hawaii Topo - 2592 segments gmapprom.img - NA NT8 - no segments gmapbmap.img - Americas Base Map Lite v4.00 - no segments
On the SD Card gmapsupp.img - West Topo - 2622 segments WorldBaseMap.img - no segments AlaskaTopo.img - 1425 segments
With West Topo as gmapsupp.img on the SD Card many of the segments in the West/East/Hawaii are gone and show the base map. With the WorldBaseMap, the East/Hawaii Topo works fine along with the WorldBaseMap(outside of NA).
So I am guessing the 3850 limit is for the combined nuvi and SD card gmapsupp.img? |
