HELP!!!
My friend brough her mio c710 from Europe. I tried to upload my us maps dvd from my c310x onto her unit.
First it seemed to work fine.
After the upload it told me the maps were locked, so I ran the update tool to V 3.2

Now the c710 tells me that the HardwareIDchanged.

Any idea on how to fix this?

Thnx

Bad idea!

You will have to copy the original license.db back to the unit.
Hope you backed it up.

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall the unit with the dvd.

Install Mio Transfer on your pc. It's also on the dvd.
Copy Mio Transfer Hack in the installed Mio Transfer directory. Mio Transfer Hack can be found somewhere on this forum. Just use the Google search at the top of this page.
Connect your C710 to the pc with the usb cable. Install the usb driver from the dvd on your pc. Restart your pc.
You can now copy the license.db from your dvd to your Mio by using Mio Transfer Hack. It might also be possible to do it with the standard Mio Transfer program.

Reset your Mio and try again.

Is there a "personalized" license.db on each DVD? WOW, it never occurred to me what kind of hasle it could be to distribute a DVD that has to match a GPS PND. I mean, the license file must have some kind of device ID, right? So Mio has to give the DVD factory a list of device ID. The DVD factory can't print 1000s of them with one image. Instead they have to print each one with different license.db. And once they get the DVD printed, they have to match the ID with the device and ship them together.

Thanks!!!
That helped. Copied the license.db with the hack (did not work without it) and the message disapeared.

Now: next question: anyone know how to unlock maps??

The license.db file doesn't have to be personalized. It just has to authorize the use of a particular set of maps (North America) on a Mio North American model. A hardware ID in the Mio ROM identifies it as a North American model - not a specific unit, just a generic one. That's all that's needed. It means you can't use the North American maps on a European model that doesn't have the correct hardware ID to match the maps, and vice-versa. When you buy maps on SD card, the hardware ID checked is on the SD card instead.

In general, licenses for one model (e.g. C310x) will not work on another model (e.g. C520), although there might be some exceptions depending on the specific hardware and maps being used. In any case, you'll need a variation of the "Mio Transfer Hack" (search for that at the top of each Forum page) so ou have access to the full contents of My Flash Disk. The license.db file normally goes into the \My Flash Disk\Miomap\Miomap\ folder. Similarly, the .fbl map files go into \My Flash Disk\Miomap\Miomap\Maps\.

And no, it's not "normal", at least for a new unit, for the model # on the box label to be different from the model # on the unit. Where did you pick this unit up?

I dont know where because friend of mine was tring to put more maps on this MIO c510 and He got this information hardwareIDchanged and after that (next window is appearing) wrong licence. I was reading some other posts and i have looked on label model in PDA and on model name on Box and I think You are right.I must add that all CD/DVD are original and on them is.....C710 so some one just f&%kup interior equipment on box cd's.
I was chceking & coping licence to those folders and nothing, that to all others foldes and....nothing, so I thing that You're right ,I can't use software and licence from c710 to C510. I'll try few more times if not----Service (MIO has aprox.2months so there shouldn't be any problems).
He bought this from shop in Poland:)

Hacking => No Warranty:

MIO service just told me in an email that if they get
any MIO device in for service that appears to be hacked,
that they then consider it to be out of warranty.
They said that they then charge [at least] $100 for the service.
I suppose that (even under normal conditions) you might not even
get back your original unit.

Have people been getting the same S/N back from service?

So, make sure you clean up and out your MIO (if you can
still do so) before sending it in for service.

On the C310x, a Hard Reset (with no SD card installed) would
presumably clear and restore anything outside of the \My Flash Diskfolder. However, all the stuff in \My Flash Disk\ is where
they might look for "extra" folders and files, or non-standard
versions of MioMap, license, maps, etc.

Of course, it is difficult to "clean" a unit if it is seriously
broken or the display or touch input does not work.
I suppose, if one cannot restore from the DVD-ROM, then
having the \My Flash Disk\ folder empty would be better than
leaving "corrupted" stuff in it.

In making a final attempt to restore software that had
been "somehow corrupted" (possibly by some aborted or
interrupted update process), it would be reasonable to erase
the contents of the \My Flash Disk\ folder before attempting
to restore fresh software from the DVD-ROM.

Or even more amusing, use some of the Blue Screen of Death functions.

And yes, Gary, each time I've sent a Mio C310x (usually they've replaced the System Board), I've gotten the same external shell back (including the screen protector I installed).

"Grand-Reset" functions (Hard AND Soft Reset together).
Good idea, though I do not know what function would best
"normalize" the C310x to erase all hacks.
Maybe the "6=Format Flash for BINFS" under the "Other Tools"?

Did you take pains to "normalize" your MIO before you sent
it in to MIO for service?

If not, did MIO bug you about any modifications, or charge
you extra? Thanks.

As I remember, your USB port got fried several times?
(Or, was that somebody else?)

Gary - yes, I went to "pains" to restore the Mio to stock before sending it- Hard reset w/o SD Card, "edit" \My Flash Disk, etc. Even took my iGO.db file out. And yes, I've had "usb port" issues.

Every one I've sent out came back within about 8-10 calendar days, no charge (except for my cost to ship it). And yes, they've all been for usb port issues.
