Lucky, your new version (OEM_GMP.srf) now looks good both in daylight and night time views. Thanks for continuing to work on this. I played with your files a bit to see if I could get rid of some of the tiny clitches but didn't have much luck. Thanks again.

Excellent tool! I've been dabbling with Maya to rebuild my car and composited in Photoshop, and had some problems with the transparancy, but after following the tips here I worked it out. Basically I did it like this:
1. Build, textured and rendered my car with alphachannel in Maya to PSD files 2. Used the srf2png tool to extract a vehicle from my Nuvi 250 3. Opened the PNG in Photoshop 4. Copy/pasted my Maya images (which were rendered on transparant background) on the PNG file, using the original Nuvi images as reference 5. Deleted the original images 6. Saved the PNG 7. Opened the PNG in GIMP 8. Created a new transparant layer 9. Save the PNG from GIMP with default settings 10. Convert the PNG to SRF using the png2srf tool on the site
Works fine! Currently I'm adding the topview. When it's ready I'll put it online so that other Golf drivers can use it too if they like.
Thanks a lot, this makes it a whole lot more fun. |

Download the Volkswagen Golf III file at http://home.planet.nl/~knol0401/vwgolf3.srf
If anyone's wondering, the language on the screens is Dutch as I'm from Holland. |

Thank you EZRAN, I was able to use your tool to convert the blue_truck from Garmin's site to a red one. I will try to actually make one using my actual vehicle, a Nissan Titan.

Hey Bear Hunter what a surprise to see you here also. This is BBF from the Titan site.
Here's the Red truck .srf for anyone interested http://rapidshare.com/files/108850993/truck_red.srf.html |

This is a great thread, and just reading through the many post. I've got a 760 (just picked up). I'm looking for a "red" 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse (if anyone happens to have one) Also, is there a way to take an existing .SRF file, after being converted to a png file, and simply modify the base colors (and the shadowing, etc.)? I'm not sure I picked that up from the posts. For example, one of the base Garmin shapes is similar, but the wrong color.. I'd like to get it to a rust red to be closer to my car (while working on an actual Eclipse). Thanks.

| Well, thanks to all the great info in this thread and the converters ezran was kind enough to develop I now have a nice red Jeep Liberty on my c530 :) Found out that I needed to use the 2880x150 format (2881x160 seems to be for the newer models). Now I just need to do some different colors for the folks that challenged me to do it. |

OK, a quick question for anyone who can answer. I made a .png of my 3D model and converted it with ezran's script file, and when I load it onto my 530 it looks like this:

The Jeep look OK, but there is a bit of noise around the edge. I read the detailed post ezran made on page 5 (I think) about selections and feathering edges for better transparency, tried a few different times but keep getting that jagged-looking edge around the images. Am I being picky or is there a way to get a smoother image? Other than that niggling little detail I really like having my red Liberty on my Garmin
For those who are interested I did a quick model in Blender and rendered it out at 320x240 for the working images, then finally sized everything down to 2881x160. |

Hello there, I got the same problem that Subaru Steve has. I got a ready designed Yaris model in Google-Sketch-Format (skp) and want it to be converted into srf-format. What do I need? Thanx |

Well I finally figured out my transparency issue by re-reading some of the earlier posts. For whatever reason it seems that paint.net does a better job of handling PNG format images than either GIMP or Photoshop. All I had to do was open the image in paint.net, select magic wand, click on the transparent portion to highlight it and cut it out. After running several versions thru ezrans' converter it seems to be working just fine. Here is an updated pic of my Liberty on the screen (I even took the time to add my roof rack ):

Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread. Based on all I've found here and the great ezran's convert page I've been able to build my own car icon for my C510 from an Sketchup model. I've used: - Sketchup to export two sets of 36 images each (3D and 2D views). - ImageMagick to append the two sets into a single .png file - Paint.NET to resize sets, add transparency, reduce noise and create the final 2881x160 .png - ezran's web page to convert .png to .srf No transparency nor noise problems up to now. I can provide detailed instructions if anyone is interested. |
