Hello guys, first of all, THANKS ezran for the converter, and thanks everyone for the valuable informations.
I missed the same as JuBu (if I remember right): a simple circle with a triangle in it. I will be happy to share if anyone interested.
My 2nd idea is to make something like navigon's "clear jelly-button-like" pointer. Can anyone help me having the pngs of navigon? |

I made these 2D Compass Roses for boating and for hiking. They are simple head-up (non-rotated) pointers. There is a blue pointer and a red pointer. These are similar to Chazz8's scope icons. *Special thanks to Ezran for providing the png-srf converter*

Hi, I started messing with this the other day and I need some help. I have managed to make an F1 race car and it works well except something is not right with the transparancy.

Im a 3d designer so the 3D suff and creating images is easy but I have no idea what im doing when it comes to layers and transparancy in image editing programs! I have tried to follow the tutorial for feathering edges and has made a difference but not much. There are rough edges with blue marks and when I go over the orange roads, the background turns pink!
Any help you can offer would be appreciated as when I have got this mastered i can make SRF files for just about any car out there. This may not be the best example as it is a small open wheel vehicle with lots of detail like sponsors logos etc.
Thanks a lot
By the way I am using 3DSMax to make the images and paint shop pro to manipulate.

Thank you all for this excellent thread.
I quite liked the cross-hair "vehicles" from Chaz, and all the "know-how" and utility associated with making the vehicles.
I took the liberty to add a "Direction" arrow to Chaz's BestXhair one, since quite often I use the "North Up" map display and find it useful to have the travel direction indicated.
I don't know how to upload the file, but if anyone is interested, I can e-mail it.
Cheers, |

loffler, wellcome here. I face the same problem. At the moment I really don't know the "rules" of the colors and transparency... I made several "vehicles" (basically rings with a triangle pointing to the middle) with trial-and-error system, and have to tell you that only 1 (one) looks perfect only. Problem occures with edges, too light transparency; and that damn pink and blue speckles appears too much. Later (if I'll have more time) I'll happy to share my experiences, if anyone interested.
Another (lazy) experience is: no real use of 3D images, as the device turns the map immediatelly to "track up" in that mode. So it seems easyer and nicer to take one, big, nice, detailed image of the real car from the proper angle from behind, and use that image in all (36) positions... |

I played around with your files using GIMP and when I saved your .png file with the option "save color value of transparent pixels" UN-checked I was able to convert the saved file to a .srf that did not have the weird background colors.
Here is a .zip file with the RedCompass.srf and the .png file that I saved. Maybe you can find out the difference between the GIMP and Photoshop files (think color values in transparent pixels): www.gpspassion.com/upload/RedCompass.zip
FYI: The .srf file that you shared is only 143KB as opposed to the approx. 1351KB .srf file that I got when I converted your un-altered .png file.
I don't have photoshop, so I hope you can determine how to correctly save .png files with photoshop. |

Thank you very much... I might just download GIMP and use that to make these babies.
Much appreciated! |

I sold my 360 to get a 660 which won't be in my hands for a few more days.
See if this one works OEM style, looked good in Photoshop lol. http://www.l13.us/nuvi/OEM.srf |

Lucky, Thanks, best one yet! Your oem.srf is not displaying correctly on my nuvi 200. -Try this remix of your oem (oem2.zip) done with paint shop pro:
http://www.gpspassion.com/upload/oem2.zip
-there is also a minor alignment problem (hopping around a little) (...you can find the problem by watching frames in: settings > map > change vehicle) -some blue flak in the daytime display...
Great job though!!
-thanks again... !!!

Thanks for the input, I'll see if I can get the glitches ironed out (unless someone gets to it before I can). The original files, included PSD, PNG and SRF are all here:
http://www.l13.us/nuvi/
I'd love to make a bunch of these if I could just figure out how to save the png in Photoshop.
EDIT Here's one I re-did using the posted method (with GIMP). http://www.l13.us/nuvi/OEM_GMP.srf |
