| I have finally received the maps and I noticed that it doesn't have the maximum speed of the roads anymore (at least with Califonia maps). Does anyone have the same problem? |

So, I've been using the maps for a few days now and the preliminary impressions are mostly negative:
- speed limits are gone - many more errors, even in places where it was correct before - slower routing
On the bright side, they are more up-to-date (i.e. they have some 4-year old neighbourhoods that the previos ones didn't have.

I hadn't caught the speed limits being gone, I'll have to lookinto that some more.
I have definitely noticed a few new mistakes (which I've mentioned here before), but I can't say that I've been seeing a lot of errors in the areas I've looked into so far. Others have reported errors as well so it may be that some area/regions are better than others. So far, the errors I've found have been minor, but again, experiences in other areas/regions might be different. It might be helpful for others to point out what area the errors are in and I would definitely make sure that you report errors back to TeleAtlas so they investigate and update their maps. Since they just recently added all the GDT data into their maps, I'm not surprised that some new errors have been introduced.
I haven't done specific timing tests, but I haven't noticed that routing is any faster/slower with the new maps than the old ones. Having said that, routing with the full NA map loaded is definitely slower than when you only have a regional map loaded. They need to improve routing/rerouting speed on the full NA or USA/Canada maps a bit yet, especially when doing local/regional routes.

So I just got the maps and I was wondering if anyone clarified why there is a 500MB difference between the "NA" and "USA & Canada" maps. Is NA worth it for me to go buy a 2GB card? I installed the smaller maps and they definitely added lots of POI's that they didn't have before like banks/ATM's. Routing, at least from NC to CA seems faster than it used to be. Lots of newer roads have been added. |

Yes,
I stated earlier in this thread that I contacted Tom Tom and they said the difference was the addition of Puerto Rico and the addition of a lot more POI categories/points.

| Sorry, this might be the incorrect thread, but can I just go buy a 2GB card and then put it in my TT and upload the maps or is it more complicated than that. I can't find any info on getting a new SD card on the TT website. Thanks for your help. |

| TomTom just posted on their website step-by-step instructions with screenshots. I think you will find it helpful. |

I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't clear - Puerto Rico is not an addition to the new maps - rather Puerto Rico is supposed to be the difference between the USA/Canada map and the North America map. The other additional materials in the North America maps is a lot of new POIs and POI categories. This is all acccording to Tom Tom.
The difference between the old maps and the new maps is the addition of a lot of new roads and POIs not previously included in the maps.
I hope this clears things up.

| On the issue of old problems coming back, it seems this has happened in quite a few places with the 2006.10 TeleAtlas release, in Europe too. There must have been some bug in the compilation process. It's nice to have frequent map updates, but if that means quality control issues it's a mixed blessing... |

| With reference to old problems coming back.. I just received my map updates and installed NA. The first thing I noticed that part of my street was gone. Now this street section is not new at least 25-30 years old. Up until now it was correct..On the other hand I looked up a state road that was just completed a year or so ago and it's there. I just hope that what's new and correct outnumber all the old problems. |

| For me this "update" seems to be at least 5 years out of date in my area. Streets that are on older maps are missing in this update, a railway line that was removed about 10 years ago is back on this version and unlike most, newer developments in my area are not on this update. I compared these new maps with Streets and Trips 2007 and agree with pforkes that Streets and trips has better map data. |

I just noticed today that, while my neighborhood finally shows up on the map, some of the older, main streets in town are not showing up on the map- sort of.
They aren't visible, and don't appear to be taken into account when route planning, however once you get on one it takes routing ok and the name appears. |

- Same experience today. I was driving by some streets I did not see on my screen. On my return I took the detour driving through this area and the streets around were all there shown. Strange. |

| Too bad that my PDA does not support TT6 and the new map release does not support TT5. |
