True, see the wishlist in the review. The workaround I use is to export to NMEA and then process via GPSVisualizer, see the discussion with Adam above. Works pretty well. Had it on the runs yesterday and geocoded my pictures last night, very handy :

What I'd like to find now is a tool to analyze distances, time, max speed, etc...I'll see if I can load the track in Memory Map maybe.

Hi
thats exactly what I intend to use it for with Robogeo, am off skiing in Andorra at the weekend, will see how it performs.
When I have some tracks I will post them at www.markduncombe.co.uk.
For analyzing the tracks have you looked at motionbased.com or Robogeo?
regards

Hmmm, things not going at all well, GPSVisualizer is not having much luck making sense of the nmea export, nor anything else I try come to that.
Creating kml files from the dg-100 software is the only export thats I can get to work.
I have emailed Adam a nmea file to see if he can work out whats going wrong.

Looks like Globalsat have messed up the NMEA export more than we first thought
$GPRMC,160634,A,5159.2419,N,-209.8964,E,3.00,17.0,200207,,*3A
the -209 should be 00209 and the E should be a W

Strange, GPX from NMEA works fine here, can you check your DG-100 firmware version in case they are shipping with a new one ? I have F-OTH-01-0611081 here.
Massive pain tonight though when I had to click 172 times on the "95 point" files on the left to merge them into one single file...That first checkbox on the tree should control them automatically. |

The NMEA is not handling negative(west) longitudes correctly, instead of changing the E to a W they are leaving the E and putting a - in front of the longitude.
so Globalsat are exporting as
$GPRMC,160634,A,5159.2419,N,-209.8964,E,3.00,17.0,200207,,*3A
when it should be
$GPRMC,160634,A,5159.2419,N,00209.8964,W,3.00,17.0,200207,,*3A
and the - sign will almost certainly prevent the file being imported correctly, though Adam has put a workaround in.
Have you got an email for Globalssat?
cheers

I have found a way round your pain :-)
from the file menu select "select all files" and all the boxes in the tree will be ticked.

The FW version is very different indeed, I wonder if anything has changed compared with mine, you still have the 95 point limitation do you ?
I've really been enjoying using it for some picture geocoding over the past few days in the Alps, you can see some of my pictures here. The "select all" tip helps a lot too, thanks for that. |

In fact tonight when I came back from the office I setup a 1s refresh time and observed few interesting things :
1) I don't have 95 points per split but rather 64 e.g 012, 2007-02-22:19:02:39 (record 1 to 64) 013, 2007-02-22:19:03:43 (record 1 to 64)
BTW I don't know if this is related but I also enabled the altitude recording
2) I have about 3 minutes and later 5 minutes worth of data missing using the 1s refresh. The road I took was the same I took this morning except from the direction. This morning the interval was set to 30s and still I was able to capture the section of the road which is missing now. The road may not offer the best visibility (mountain) and the sky was very cloudy. I'll try again tomorrow with the same settings. 5 minutes without a fix seems long considering I was getting one this morning. Is there any limitation on the interval time (1s too short) ?
3) When exporting to .KML and importing into gpsvisualizer.com the map is located in South Africa but I swear my office is based in France. However exporting to RMC compatible file worked.
PS: For Mac users I'm using GlobalSat DataLogger under WinXP running in Parallels. |

Yes, just checked my files and I'm down to 64 with the altitude too, good catch. Hard to tell what happened with your missing data, haven't seen that type of problem. You can check the green light to see if you have a fix. I have noticed that exporting sometimes loses some data if I don't double-click on the "Data Logger Files" line on the left.
Same problem with the KML/GPSV workflow, I use NMEA only now. |
