@huangg - PANASONIC SD/MMC card reader. And it was told it can support the SDIO. Does it means it can support SD-WIFI card? Is there anybody here tried it? And is there any good dear on the SDIO card?
@gpspassion - Yes, and nothing happens. From what I understand supporting is not enough, they need to purchase an extra SDIO licence and given the way this device is supposed to be used, why would they ?
So me and a friend want to put wifi on our 310x's. From what I can tell an SD wifi adapter wont work. Has anyone have any info about getting wifi to work via the usb port? |

| The Mio C310x is not a USB Host device. So you won't be able to use any USB devices, wifi or otherwise. You're better off testing an SDIO wifi adapter and praying for the extremely small chance that the Mio SD slot is somehow SDIO capable. |

Thanks. So does anyone know for a fact if an SDIO wifi adapter will work? I don't anyone who has one and I don't want to just blindly buy one to find out. |

| It just amazes me how many people want the C310x to do things it's not meant to do. Want a WiFi PDA? Buy one... :) |

I spent all my available money on the c310x. :) I have to spend about $200/month on medicine so I don't get to spend alot of money on fun things anymore. |

| Does anyone know of any major stores that carry SDIO wifi cards? Because a store might let me try it to see if it will work. |

They have one with 256mb storage on amazon for $200 new, $70 used. You can get other cards with wifi no storage for around $50. I really doubt it would work with the mio, and even if it did it would take up a slot that could be used for a 1-2 gb sd card which are dropping greatly in price.
If you want try avantgo, it syncs webpages off your pc so you can view them offline later. http://www.avantgo.com/frontdoor/index.html Not sure if this works on the mio, let us know if it does. |

| It looks like the slot is wired for SDIO (check out the chipset specs for the chips mounted on the PCB), but I haven't seen any WinCE.NET WiFi drivers to run the WiFi card once you get one. |

| Would the driver need to be specific to the model for the make of CE? I have seen SDIO cards that say they are supported by CE 4.2. |

Won't work, I guess I'll just move that other thread back here.

I don't know, but I just think basicly the wince .net 4.2 support SDIO, and we need to purchase a SDIO wifi card, which might have the driver for ce .net 4.2. Then we might be able to use it. One more, in the regiest table, there is a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ->Drivers ->BlockDevice -> FlashDrv I just naively think if we can unblock it by changing the regiest, then we get a naked wince? |

Just use a Pocket PC 2003 driver. Pocket PC 2003 is a Windows CE .net 4.2 OS. At the driver level, both Windows CE OSes should be identical provided the OEM did not omit any critical APIs (like networking, etc). If anything, you may just need a few of the homebrew Pocket PC compatability dlls to get the driver s GUI configuration app running. (most use MFC so you may need the Pocket PC MFCCE300.dll, OLECE300.dll and of course doclist.dll and aygshell.dll).
As a perfect example, 99% of the drivers designed for Pocket PC 2002 will work just fine on my Handheld PC 2000 Jornada 720 device. Both OSes are based on Windows CE 3.0 and thus the actual lower level driver dll runs fine.
Windows CE 4.2 should be able to use any driver for Windows CE 4.0, 4.1 and of course 4.2 based OSes. CE 4.x will also be able to use many CE 3.0 drivers, though some may fail.
This is true even more with drivers designed for the Windows CE 4.2 based Pocket PC 2003. Since many drivers use CE's built in Wireless Zero Config service (Please check for WZCFGSVC.dll), they should even run without the need for their configuration app at all. (Provided the Mio has WZCFG Support)
I am really interested in the results of this! I noticed that the specs for the Mio C310 shown in a Hungarian PDA site's review said it had an SDIO slot and I've been wondering about this ever since. Opera 8.6, Netfront, Pocket IE, or full Internet Explorer 6.0 would be wonderful to use on this thing! If someone can make it work, I will surely take back that horrible "enjoys hard resets on power off" SupportPlus inVion 4inch I got and spend the $50 more (post BF sale) it takes to get a Mio C310x. :)
If any Mio Owners would like to discuss this further, you can reach me live on IRC on the EFNet network in the channel #HPCDev. Thanks and good luck! :) |
