Interestingly the generic car charger which I have used on occasion pute the nuvi 660 into "transfer mode" - so is useless for the purposes of powering the unit for navigation.
I don't believe that the miniUSB-charger for my smartphone did this however. |

| un4so, I don't know the reasons behind what Garmin told me. But, if you have a 660, and your auto has 110vAC, I would certainly use the Garmin 110v charger. I have 110v in one car only(factory installed), so I'm going to order the 12vDC charger for the other to power Nuvi for navigation in my pickup. I have the traffic plug, but I don't want to start my subscription right away. I live just beyond the traffic signal, and I'm not in the signal area enough to warrant using it. I'ed like to wait until I travel, then use it. |

un4so, what SW version do you have on your 660 ?
Mine (660 North America) was working like a charm in navigation mode when connected to the PC via the USB cable when I had 2.0.
Unfortunately it doesn't do that with any subsequent version (2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7). Garmin claims that this is an improvement.
I might be wrong when it comes to the car adapter via USB connector. |

Un4so, That is good to know. Unfortunately I do not have the iGo. Do you know if there is a USB to mini USB cable compatible for the 660? Thanks. |

Neverlost, I have updated my nuvi-660 to v2.6 prior to my test (Minneapolis, MN, USA).
tvuong, Not sure I understand your question... You buy the generic/all-purpose "auto power adapter" plus the specific "power tip A53" from iGo (or from Amazon). Connected together they constitute a mini-USB-car-charger specific to Garmin-nuvi-660.
Using a different power tip you get a charger for a different device; for example, power tip A32 is specific to the Motorola RAZR V3m.
Apparently these mini-USB heads have many different polarities, henceforth the need for specific mini-USB power tip per device.
iGo has a page that helps you determine the correct mini-USB power tip for each supported device: http://www.igo.com/selectorIGOTIP.asp

Thanks un4so. This is great news - a USB connector alternative (to the mount connector) available for the car !

| Last weekend I purchased the IGO auto power adapter and the A53 tip as un4so suggested and it works perfectly. It's nice to have an alternative power/charger source. I also bought the A00 power tip to charge my Sprint Sanyo 7050. It's a handy combo to have on a trip! Thank you un4so. |
