But I'm pretty sure I'm returning the extra one. I don't know what I was thinking...

Well I'm still trying to get one for my brother, so if you're going to return it, I'd like to buy it from you. Please PM me.

I think the more people own this and give feedback and it gets improved upon, you are gonna see Mio in the USA come up as a major contender with the Garmins, TomToms, etc. When you factor in the budget minded price, they will fit a certain segment of people (like me) quite well. I'm sure they make great high-end products, but since I only own the entry-level model released in the USA, I can only comment on this end of things and say that they got something good going on if they continue to evolve and listen to their customers.

Yeah I agree with you here. Mio has come out with a really solid product and hangs with the best of them IMHO.

The only thing that I haven't figured out... Does anyone know how to name your past destinations? On my previous system I was able to have a list of favorites which I could assign user-friendly names to, like "John's house". It seems with the Mio you can only have two favorites named, "Home" and "Work" and the other things appearing in your history can only be by entered address (unless they happened to be looked up by POI.)

Meehow,
Unzip the original DATA.zip and MoonBear's zip. Now replace ui_mio\mio\loading_c310.bmp with the same file from the original DATA.zip. Now rezip the modified MoonBear's files and use that on your C310x.

I've noticed that this unit seems like it is capable of adding in the ability to receive traffic info. Does anyone know if it's possible to unlock that feature?

There was some talk of an add on piece of hardware that isn't available for the c310x I believe. At one point, heard it wasn't going to be made available. But not positive.

Actually, you don't have to unzip the data folder before uploading again. Get your new pic, resize it to a 320x240 file, save as loading_c310.bmp. After creating the pic, find wherever you saved it. Right click the file, hit copy. Now, navigate to the zipped data file and instead of unzipping, go ahead and navigate straight to the point described above. Then hit paste. It will ask if you want to replace existing file. Click yes. Then upload the new data file to the unit. Works great and don't have to worry about possible errors in recompressing the folder.

Female UK Voice Here

Navigate to \My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap\voice\ and transfer the language file in it's .zip format.

Hey guys,

Noobie here. I just unlocked my mio c310x and everything was working dandy. However, I had to hard reboot my system and after doing so the "original" mio shell returned. Active Sync was no longer able to recognize my mio and the DVD program also does not recognize my mio. Asides from that, the gps stuff still works great. Any idea how I can hack into the system again?

Thanks in advance!

Try rebooting your PC, plugging/unplugging, the standard MioTransfert app gets restored after a hard reset. You should use the customization thread linked from the first message though for this type of question.

@defeghan - great review, I'll link to it from the first message. I was going to give you the link for the UK Female voice but stroths already gave it.

@johncam81 - I would recommend you take a close look at the note in the first message in this thread before I have to step in.

Hi all. Just got the C310X at Staples during BF. It's my first foray into the GPS world. Have unboxed for only 30 mins just to get a feel for it. Will unfortunately wait until Christmas to really get into it. I am looking forward to navigating with it and my first geocaching experience. Also, being a golfer, I was wondering if I can find a source for golf course maps so I can use on the course? Any ideas?

Lamsao,

Soft reset = pushing the reset button
Hard reset = turing the small on/off switch at the bottom of the device.

From "Home", tap "settings" (top left) then "Advanced", then "Cockpit Settings". Now you can change one of the three display field to show "Speed".

Have fun!

No, it's on the bottom. It's in a hole. Right next to the cryptic description, "Reset."
