NOTE BY GPSPASSION - TMC will become available on Garmin units in July 2007, see details on page 3.

I spoke with a local GPS dealer today who was in contact with Garmin yesterday. FM TMC is coming to Canada! on January 1, 2007 thru Clear Channel. It will be initially available for Toronto and Montreal.

Estimated cost $11 to $20 per month.

Good news but the cost seems terribly high, especially if they only have limited coverage at first.

Hi hpatlik,

Did you hear any further news on TMC for Toronto area or Montreal? Are they still on target.

Cheers,

Hi Blaster2004,

No, I called a dealer and they said that nothing is official at this time, so the January 1, 2007 start date they provided previously may have been "wishful thinking".

Hey hpatlik,

It's actually available since Dec 16 2006. Check out it out http://www.magellangps.com/products/traffic_service.asp#traffic

Only question is it's Magellan products and not Garmin.

Cheers,

Hi all.
Unfortunately in this world "some" companies misleads consumers on a regular basis. Anyone can write anything on a piece of paper or a website for everyone else to believe. No one seems to care to check the validity of the info they post or claim or write. But in regards of TMC services in Toronto there is NONE yet available. Magellan and GPSmart websites have the info wrong. I have been in touch with Magellan CSR lately. I just received an email from Clear Channel 4 days ago saying that their Total Traffic Network service will be available soon in Toronto. But how soon , it did not say. As we all know TTN service customers includes GARMIN, MIO, TOMTOM, COBRA, new BMX 2007 among others. My C550 unit keeps searching and tunning to diferent FM channels with levels varying between 4 and 14 with just a few lower levels for a few channels. The FM table even though does not show anything if you press the first 2 upper lines will show 2 frecuencies 104.5 (CHUM FM) and 100.7 (CHIN FM) with CC 12 and LTN=0 and SID of 6 and 7 respectively.

I just talked to Garmin this morning and there is no TMC service for Toronto yet. The tech just told me that I was on a blackout area and to keep an eye on the TTN website. I could not confirm with him whether the FM Station that my C550 shows on the FM table, 104.5 CHUM FM, will be the one providing the services for TTN or belongs to Magellan's NAVTEQ RDS Traffic. Nor I asked him about posible SID or LTN numbers to be used by Clear Channel's TTN in Toronto.

It's all American.
That means this service has even been implemented into Canada yet.

I will appreciate some help if some body can tell me which bluetooth telephones are completely compatible with Nuvi660. I have a blackberry and I can not see the phone book and call history in the Nuvi660. I have gone to the Garmin site and scrolled through different phones, but could not find which is completely compatible. Thanks guys.

I noticed that on the http://www.realtimetraffic.net/ site no longer has the FAQ entry from service in Canada. Last week there was a FAQ entry saying how the service ''isn't available "yet", but keep checking back''.

I don't know if this means it's ready to launch or that the entire project has been put on hold indefinitely.

I emailed them asking why there even taking such a long time. As to when or at least something. Haven't got no reply yet.
I suggest everyone to write an email to at least get some sort of answer.

Has anybody gotten a reply yet? Do they even read their email? I sent an email two weeks ago, but still no reply.

I got no reply at all. This was the second time I even emailed them. I guess the Canadian market isn't that profitable.
