Review of TTN6 in North America is now online on the portal.
You can read the manual in English >> HERE <<
News item on the portal
After a long wait for v5 users, TomTom v6, discovered on the GO 510/910's in the Spring then offered as an update for the GOv1/300/500/700/ONE/RIDER this summer, has now been launched as Navigator 6 for our PDAs, PocketPC's, Palm's and Nokia Smartphones (S60 v3, N80/E61 type only) to be precise. Previously compatible with TomTom Mobile 5 available in Europe, Windows Smartphones are no longer supported. Users of v5 will be in known territory, as the many changes and improvements have been well integrated.
For the first time since TomTom Navigator was launched in Europe in June of 2002, TomTom wil not be offering an upgrade program to existing users. The main reason being that is has become very difficult for them to keep supporting all the PDAs out there, especially with the new features that have been introduced over time. They realize people are going to be disappointed, but we should keep in mind last year's great deal, v5 and maps of Europe for €59. Besides the €129/$129 price for the DVD version is barely more thant what an upgrade used to cost in the past.
What's New and Improved compared with v5 (in order of "appearance") :
- Lanches faster, 10 seconds versus 30 seconds
- More colorful icons (65535 colors)
- New maps : ships with the latest TeleAtlas 2006.4 maps, except the UK and Ireland that will have TeleAtlas 2006.7 maps for full coverage of Ireland and North America has the GO910 maps, i.e. 2006.1
- Optional "North UP" 2D navigation mode that is especially convenient for pedestrian use to avoid the annoying map rotations due to the limitations of GPS accuracy in urban environments and at low speeds
- Navigation to a contact directly from the "Navigate to" menu
- Optional "Safety Lock" navigation mode to have quick access to essential features while navigating (Navigate to, Alternative route, day/night, Exit, Sound on/off, 3D on/off)
- Overspeed indicator on main roads
- Actual Signpost display on freeways
- Improved ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) thanks to the updated TeleAtlas maps (verified in Europe so far)
- "Arrival time" feature for a quick view of your progress, late or early in color coded minutes
- Navigation to a GPS (latitude/longitude) position
- "TomTom Buddy" feature to transmit your position, a destination or a message via GPRS
- Pre-installed speedcam database - Europe only
- Tunnels shown on the maps with a shaded graphical display
- Custom POI categories increased from 39 to 100
- POI Searching across categories : you no longer need to figure out which category the POI you're looking for belongs to, just type the letter and it will filter by name, very convenient compared with TT5, had been available on Garmin and Magellan units previously

"Unveiled" is not the same as "out"...it won't be out until next month (unless you have a Palm Treo).

| True, although the "next month" is not too far away now ;-) They told us on Monday that it should be in stores around mid-September, I guess that will depend on distributors and resellers too. |

I wonder when the U.S. version will be out.
Anyone know if TT6 will say the highway numbers and direction (405 South) and which side of the street your destination is on like iGuidance? |

@raaaaaa - v6 for the Rider is already available as a free update, check out the AIO section www.GOTomTom.com
@lupham - they're saying September for availability, neither of the features you mention are supported, but the second one pointed out to them based on user feedback, I'll add the first one to the list I am preparing.
PS - Moving this back to the "News Section" until it becomes avaliable

| Only if their maps are up-to-date, all these new features are just nice to have. TT5 doesn't have any info of my subdivision built in 2001 (a suburb in Atlanta) while MS S&T 2005 or NavTeq has it all... |

Well the maps are the new TeleAtlas 2006.1 maps, whether they have your street cannot be guaranteed of course, you might want to check with the new MapInsight tool -> http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/news.asp?id=479
@Nileo - no official list so far, my guess is most PDAs will work but TomTom will only support a limited number due to the difficulties involved in such support, Acer, HP, Mio and HTC should be supported. |

Great, did you see TeleAtlas 2006.1 indicated on the MapInsight tool, was looking for that myself but couldn't see it.
No upgrade plan I'm afraid, but the software has become pretty cheap now, compared to when it was launched 3 years ago, €129 for Europe on DVDs, should be about $129 in the US. |

| I'm assuming this is 6515 compatible? It looks like on the the tomtom.com site, it comes with a receiver. They will be selling maps only too? |
