Wow Martin!
The new version looks great. Very slick with the view of Earth.
I tried what you suggested to get the info to show up but that did not work. No big deal for me. Just the ability to send commands is reason enough to use this great program.

Hi. What a great little program! Very well done Martin! Works like a charm on my Asus A730W + BT-338.
If you now just add a marker showing current position on the globe, you could market it as a: Moving-map application with complete world coverage. :-) Keep up the good work!

Hi, just wanted to report that I tried it on my Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard) phone, with the Globalsat 349 receiver, and it works with no problems.

The Globalsat came with a program called GPSInfo that does much of the same things, so I just downloaded this one to support beta testing. However, I am finding that this program has some interesting aspects that I like. One particular fact is that the WAAS status button is always "unchecked" when you bring up the GPSInfo program. Whereas, with this program, you can actually query the device, and find out the truth about if WAAS is set or not. Also, there are all these commands (though they don't all make sense to me, see below).

Now, I have some questions, since I am very new to all this:

1. What are the different WAAS commands that are there? What do the different numbers mean? Are they applicable to my receiver?

2. What is "static nav", and why would I turn that on or off?

Thanks,

-Kal.

Yes GPSinfo has been shipping for ages with no improvements and offers very little control, it's anyone's guess whether any of its settings work in fact. For your other questions:

@about v0.4 - that little globe is indeed amazing and you can control it with the pop-up keyboard on a PDA.

Any chance you can display the latest TTFF in the window in the bottom ? Right now I have a "50" that stays there at all times. An standard deviation number would be interesting too to show the approximate accuracy of the position.

The "50" seems to be some sort of "zoomlevel indicator" as it shows different values if you push the "joystickbuttons" up or down, the positionplot window also zooms in and out at the same time.
Btw, thankyou gpspassion for this wonderful site. It has been most helpful when deciding what to buy (and not).

I am listening here! Added standard deviation in metres of position for the last three minutes. It is shown in the plot area with the number of seconds data used for calculation (up to three minutes). The scale of the plot is the height of the plot window. The latest TTFF is kept on screen on the last info row on the main screen. Thanks Gpspassion for those ideas. A position mark is now drawn on the earth image so now it is a moving map app with global coverage ;-) maybe moving earth app covers it better..., thanks Putzfrau (Kul att du gillar programmet!).

I think I need to rethink the interface as the screen estate is all but used up.
As always, download from first post!

Downloaded and running, got the latest TTFF, thanks, but the sigma is giving me odd numbers 305187.8 meters, I know better thant to think GPS is accurate down to 2 meteres, but that seems a bit much ;-) Maybe you could reset it on each reset command to get rid of bad data ?

Ooops, didn't think of that Gpspassion. Of course I should reset the position accumulation after a reset. You will have to quit and restart after first fix or wait three minutes to get a correct standard deviation.

Great, actually I wonder if an additional menu might not be better to reset the SDeviation, although I guess a hot start shouldn't delay the fix too much. What would be nice is way to memorize SDeviation data by naming the file indoor, outdoor, woods, etc...

Ehhrm, I think I made a mistake when calculating the standard deviation. I ran some test last night and the sd seemed a bit too small. I looked at the code today and certainly there is an error. What it calculates now is the spread of deviation from the average and that is a totally useless number. So don't use this data in 0.5...

Gpspassion, I was thinking of either adding a sentence in the log file like:
$SEWE,last command sent, time for last command, last ttff, current sd*CS

or add a new type of log file with more preprocessed data in comma separated format for import into Excel. What data would you like to see in such a file?

Hey, I finally figured out how to control the globe with the keyboard! Nifty. You can zoom in, zoom out, set it spinning etc. Maybe Martin can publish a definitive list of commands (I just figured out trial and error, so I am not comfortable publishing it!)

One thing was strange - I was doing this at night, but the globe showed North America in full light. Is this just a static image, or is something wrong in my configuration?

Thanks for testing Astromusic!

Commands to move around the 3D view are
5: zoom in
0: zoom out
1: increase earth rotation
2: decrease earth rotation
6: tilt upwards
9: tilt downwards
7: rotate left around your position
8: rotate right around your position
3: restore view to default

Strange about the sun simulation, I use the device UTC time to decide where to render the sun, but if you don't have a GPS fix I have no clue of earth rotation so I render the earth with position 0.0 N 0.0 W. Did you have a GPS fix when you tested?

Yes that sentence would certainly help and easy enough to find with a text editor.

Just noticed today that you can't stop logging, I guess disconnecting the GPS does the same, but then will it start logging automatically if you reconnect ?

Oh and saw a "beta version expired" message appear for the first time.
