Hi All,
Okay it finally arrived!
Here are a few screen shots:

Just now getting to take a look at it so I'll need some "play" time before I can really tell you guys anything. Here's what I know so far:
1) The DVD does NOT include a copy of MapSource, but it does offer an option to download it. It appears to use MapInstall to transfer the main maps instead (I haven't gotten that far yet).
2) The BT receiver is very small and light weight.
3) The removable battery is a 1100 mAh.
4) The DVD includes the Windows Mobile and Palm versions of Mobile XT (WM version files dated at 10/20/2006 and Palm version files dated at 11/08/2006).
5) The final release of Mobile XT for Windows Mobile/PPC is version 4.00.20wp
6) The software looks pretty much like the latest beta did, but appears to be much more stable in my brief experience with it so far.
7) There isn't a PDF-based user guide on the DVD. It appears to be HTML-based and formatted for use on the mobile device.
That's about all I know for the moment. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

edit - this was a reply to the message before last obviously, but anyway let's keep the software/hardware separate since that's the way we started.
GPS Bluetooth Hardware (performance, battery life, etc...) stays here
Software/package -> http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56827 or feel free to start a new thread in the "News" forums by a copy/paste of that message above.
Give our friend some time, this is not a hotline ! I would also suggest keeping the reviews separate, hardware here, software in the existing XT thread. Semsons have them in stock too now and mine will ship tomorrow, I'll try to have some signal and track analysis by the end of the week.

Mine arrived as well. I have a couple of questions that I was hoping someone could answer:
1. Is the mobile 10 supposed to allow for use of the services in Mobile XT (fuel, weather, etc.)? The problem is that even after registering the device, my profile does not show such services listed. Mobile XT asks for an activation code for these services that I am supposed to get from my.garmin.com.....but I can't find this code anywhere. On closer examination of the ads on garmin's site for the mobile 10 and mobile 20, it looks like only the mobile 20 (the version for smartphones) can make use of these services. If this is true I am bugged because Garmin told me last week over the phone that I could use these services by connecting my pda to the internet via my cell phone. Looking at Semsons site it seems like the Mobile 10 can make use of the services but only on a smartphone...but if this is true, then why would the services not show up in my profile?
2. The battery is 1100ma. The battery I had for my Itrek M1 gps is 800mAh but the correct voltage. Is it safe to use the 800mAh battery in the mobile 10x?
Thanks. |

Hmm...
I'm not sure why Garmin didn't just include MapSource on the DVD as that's what you need in order to plan routes on your PC, etc. Instead, they are using a dumbed down program called MapInstall that allows you to select and install map regions onto your mobile device. MapInstall is very easy to use and does a fine job of recognizing my Dell Axim X51v PPC (both the internal memory and the SD card). I guess that it just makes it easier for the newbies out there. Here's a shot of the MapInstall UI:

At least they've provided an easy way for you to access MapSource anyway. ;)

jvivek,
1) Yes, the GPS 10X does indeed have an auto off and auto on feature. However, both of the options can be enabled or disabled as you desire in the GPS receiver settings screen of Mobile XT (along with WAAS/EGNOS).
2) Yes, the advertisements are still in the traffic feature of Mobile XT (as that's what makes the service free after all). I'm currently looking at a Mobile/Exxon add. :) Personally, they don't bother me (i.e. they're worth having in order to get the traffic feature for free) as long as Garmin doesn't start taking a more "in your face" approach.
3) The map in Mobile 10 is the same City Navigator NT North America v8 map that you get in Garmin's other AIO's (nuvi, Zumo, etc.). Thus, you should be able to find that info on Garmin's website using their map area preview tool. |

Alex,
I tried to reply to your prvate e-mail, but you must have entered in an invalid e-mail adress. anyway...
1) Yes it does. I didn't have to activate anything and the services appear to be working just fine for me. I already had a My Garmin (https://my.garmin.com/) account and so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not (although I didn't enter any of my account information anywhere in the Mobile XT program???). Also, I live in the US and so the services may not yet be available if you live in another country.
2) I have no idea if your 800 mAh battery will work or not. |

| Mike, my Mobile 10 is coming on Friday. Does the map software have more than one unlock code? I have a Garmin GPS 76csx and I was hoping I could use the second unlock to the NT maps on it. |

| I'm afraid that I don't really know, but if I had to guess, I'd say yes it does. According to Garmin, if you receive a map DVD with your device (which Mobile 10 has), then you are eligible to unlock up to two devices (unlike the nuvi which doesn't come with a DVD and so you can't use it's unlock code to unlock any more devices). |

| I have another question. After unlocking the maps to the Bluetooth GPS, can you load maps directly to an sd or compact flash card directly using a card reader? |

| Yes, you sure can... The MapInstall program allows you to load the maps (once you've enterd in your unlock code that is) onto any removable drive or mobile device that it can find. |

I'll defer the technical details of comparing the receivers to folks better adept at it than me (like gpspassion). ;-) I can however tell you that the GPS 10X appears to work VERY well indeed. I was amazed to see just how fast it grabbed its initial sat lock (from a cold start), and out of the two or three SiRF Star III based GPS units I've used to date (including a nuvi 360), it's the only one that has been able to get a strong sat lock from inside my house (nowhere even near a window). Plus, if this thing can last even close to the time Garmin claims (i.e. 22 hours) on a single charge, I think that you'll be hard pressed to find a better BT receiver at this point.
Also... It's only 17.7 (0.697") H x 41.9 (1.65") W x 77.1 (3.04") mm in size and weighs in at a mere 2.12 ounces (60 g) which I believe makes it smaller and lighter than the GlobalSat receiver as well. |

I just remember when Globsat employee responded in the thread mentioning about a possible firmware update that will disable auto-shut off feature, this to me is critical, I want to hide the gps in the glove box and leave it turned on all the time.
Also I visited Garmin website, I guess the maps are still outdated for my city, we are going through a oil boom, tons of roads are being modified, I guess it will take another year or so before I see changes. I wish someone could give in-depth side by side review of Garmin vs TomTom on pocket pc, eg hp 4700. Stuff like gps cursor relative to your location while driving, see if it assumes like the TomTom.

Just as an FYI, you can go in and remove all of the files/folders from the program that you don't need (i.e. the extra "junk" files that the program installs). For me, I simply went in and deleted the "Apps" folder (which contains all of the installation files and folders for the various versions of Mobile XT) as well as all of the non-English voice files and the program still runs just fine. I also moved the 31 MB "Worldwide Routable Basemap" onto the SD card since the installer opted to put it in my device's internal memory.
Note that you can also manually install the Mobile XT app onto your mobile device (if you don't want to use the Mobile 10 setup wizard) by simply copying the entire contents of the DVD's "GMobileCard" folder onto your mobile device's SD card and then inserting it into your device. The Mobile XT setup program is smart enough to know if it is being run on a WM or Palm device and installs the appropriate version from there (you can then go in and clean up the unneeded files/folders as I mentioned above).
Note that this is EXACTLY how the SD card will work that's going to be included with the Mobile 20 package except that it will also contain the CN NT maps on it as well (which will be locked to the SD card of course). The Mobile XT software is 100% identical between Mobile 10 and Mobile 20. You can see this by looking in the ...\Garmin\Apps\WM folder on your mobile device. You will see that there are two version of the Mobile XT program. One for the PPC (QuePCC.EXE) and one for the Smartphone (QueSP.EXE). The installation program checks to see which version of WM it is running on and then installs the appropriate version of Mobile XT. It's funny in that I can actually run the Smartphone version on my PPC, but it is kind of whacked looking since it doesn't support the VGA resolution like the PPC version does (since there aren't any VGA Smartphones - at least not that I know of).
BTW, I also downloaded the latest MapSource program from Garmin's web site and installed it as well. Once installed, it properly finds the City Navigator NT maps that are installed by the MapInstall setup program. Since the CN maps are integrated into the MapInstall program, you have to install MapInstall in order to access the maps (even if you only intend on using MapSource and not MapInstall).
I'm still exploring the Mobile XT app itself, but right of the bat I noticed that it no longer supports automatically switching on/off the Bluetooth radio on your mobile device like it did in the first two beta versions. If you don't have BT switched on, it simply tells you that your mobile device is running in flight mode and that you need to enable BT to use the program. That's a real bummer for me since the auto on/off BT feature worked really well on my X51v PPC in the first two betas. Oh well... Garmin must of had too many problems with it and simply decided that it was easier to remove the feature instead of dealing with the support headache. I can't say as I blame them too much.
Lastly, I was disappointed to see that the POI icons are still MUCH too small on VGA devices. I was really hoping that Garmin would have addressed this issue in the final release. Other than that, all of the VGA display problems I experienced with the beta version have been resolved in the final/gold release and the Mobile XT app looks spectacular running on a VGA display.
EDIT: Updated info about what I deleted. |

| Thanks for your help TheOfficeMaven. I've got the online services working now - very neat although it may be little while before traffic updates and gas prices are available for Toronto, Canada. I backed up my device, did a hard reset, and reinstalled just the Mobile XT app plus maps and now the online services work fine. For anyone else having problems accessing online services, make sure that you completely uninstall the beta version first (if it was installed) as this is probably what caused the problem. |
