Warning: If do don’t feel comfortable with a hex editor then don’t try this.
We now have iGuidance 3.0 and I think its still a great program for time being. The main reason is I have not seen anything else with better updated maps. Maybe iGO will take the lead when they come out with U.S.A coverage at the end of summer.
Now since iGuidance 3.0 is not perfect and with few bugs/routing problems, I see some of us switched back to iGuidance 2.1.3.2. Well, I thought maybe I can have both installed on the same PPC and different maps loaded on the same SD/CF card. It turned out to be a fairly easy method to accomplish this.
First thing you do is install iG2.1.3.2 to PPC, then using File Explorer copy the \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance GuidanceQVGA.exe file to your SD/CF card. Now using the Card reader transfer the .exe to you PC harddrive. Next, use a hex editor, I use Winhex, and search for text “Maps” using Unicode mode.
You will find three places in iGuidance 2.1.3.2 GuidanceQVGA.exe: size 1,383,936 bytes, listed below. Offsets are in hexadec.
At address 000E06EEh, 000E3D4Eh, and 000E400Eh change 73h to 32h, what you are doing is changing Maps to Map2, as the result, iGuidance will now look for maps in \iNav iGuidance\Map2 Example: BEFORE
 AFTER

Now save the file under different name (GuidanceQVGA2.exe) and transfer it to your PPC to \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance. Now you can install older maps to \SD Card\iNav iGuidance\Map2\ and run the patched file. Last thing you can do is create a shortcut to this file.
You can do the same for VGA files. And have iG v3 and v2 exe’s in the same folder. The snd files are the same.
With this you can run both versions on the same PPC just not at the same time. You can also use this method to use one exe that uses small region map and another exe uses multiple sates map.

That's neat! Thanks for sharing! Let's hope iNav will issue a patch soon to address the East Coast routing problem so you can save some space on your SD card ;-)
So you are basically able to run iG 2.1.3.2 with it's older version maps (when you are unable to cross borders between states/provinces in your area with iG 3.0), and you run iG 3.0 with it's new maps at other times.
If I understand correctly, after you install iG 3.0 you can then place the modified version 2.x GuidanceQVGA2.exe and/or GuidanceVGA2.exe to \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance (a folder created by iG 3.0, where also the iG 3.0 *.exe files are located).
Maps 3.0 reside in \SD Card\iNav iGuidance\MapMaps 2.x reside in \SD Card\iNav iGuidance\Map2 Are you able ro run both Map Loader v.2.x and Map Loader v.3.0 after the above installation?

Yes, on PPC both v2 and v3 reside in \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance, this way you can use the same sound files.
v2 maps are in \SD Card\iNav iGuidance\Map2 v3 maps are in \SD Card\iNav iGuidance\Maps
Now I left out some info on PC installation. After you install v2, go to C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance and rename it to iGuidanceV2. Next, run the setup.exe on v3 dvd and chose remove, then rrun serup again to install. Now v3 runs as normal and you can run v2 from C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidanceV2\ This way both maploadErs will work. You can use the same method to patch PC v2 exe. I will post offsets later. |

Aight, on PC you only need to patch one address 000BC1F3h. Below info is based on iGuidance.exe v2.1.3.2 size 1,232,896 bytes. BEFORE
 AFTER

Its a same deal as with PPC, you are changing Maps to Map2, or you can change it to any 4 letters you like CAv2, or WAv2... just be sure to rename the Maps folder to the same thing.
When using a Maploader, it creates maps in C:\iNav iGuidance\Maps, and this is what you rename. If this folder exists, the map data there will get wiped out, so rename.
Some notes about the method: *** Pros *** - Allows to install different version on same machine - Able to split maps into states/regions like Tomtom - Faster limited search because of smaller maps - No need to rename once you use the method - If v3 craps out, you can run v2 - Able to use same favorites/recent entries in both
*** Cons *** - Waste memory by installng new/old/regions maps - Waste space by having multiple patched exes (not to bad)
There might be more... |

Nice! Thanks!
My guess would be that this would likely allow us to run simultaneously two different versions of iG on a PC (it has always been possible to run two instances of the same version of iG on a PC).
I just added a link to this thread to iGuidance Customization Ideas http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28166
