This morning I went out to one of our vehicles that had my Nuvi DC power/charger cord in it. After picking it up and walking back into the house, I noticed that the fuse in the plug-in adaptor was laying on the floor where I was standing. Knowing that was bad news, I looked at the end of the adaptor and sure enough, it was MISSING. Some how while walking back to the house, the end piece that holds the fuse in-place fell out of the unit.
I've retraced my steps several times and am unable to find it. Looks like I'll be buying another power cord since I doubt that Garmin has this small piece available for replacement. My power cord had been in and out of several vehicles since I bought it last January. As to how it came loose, I haven't a clue. With these type of connnectors, it is normally necessary to push the end all the way in and then twist it 90 degrees in order to gain access to the fuse.
If anyone has an end piece that fits the Garmin adaptor, I would certainly consider buying it at a fair price.

If anyone else out there has this problem and decided to replace the cord, they are available on eBay for around $15. The cord there does not appear to have the 90 degree elbow at the plug-in end. It will still work, but will have to plug into the side port on the Nuvi.
I got what appears to be the original power cord on Amazon (with the elbow) for around $23 including shipping.
To search for options on this matter, just Google the Garmin part number (010-10723-06). Or you can just order it from Garmin for $40 plus shipping.
Just found one of the missing pieces of my power cord. On this unit, the "missing" end piece screws into the adaptor. I suspect that over time, I've torqued the end while inserting and pulling out of my power port to the point where it started to unscrew. When it fully unscrewed, the next time I pulled it out, the piece fell off and landed under the front seat. The "silver" piece that actually connects with the vehicle's DC power port is still missing, but I was able to use a similar item from my cell phone adapter and it seems to work fine. So, I guess I'll have spare power cord which is not a bad thing.
This thread is probably more than most people want to know about this problem, but if you just remember one thing and that's to occasionally check to see if your end piece is fully screwed into the plug, you should never have this problem. I would hate to be on a long trip somewhere and lose the ability to recharge the Nuvi just because the end fell off the plug.

The tip does not look all that different from any number of 12 volt plugs, so perhaps you don't need to replace the entire cable.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous messages. I'm BACK in business with my Nuvi after stealing a part from my cell phone charger. The main point I was making is that the tip of the Garmin Nuvi charger is screwed on and if it becomes loose and falls off, you will be out of business on charging your Nuvi via the DC cord.
So, it's worth checking every once in a while to see if the tip is still screwed in tightly.

There are some installations where there is NOT enough room to plug a staight USB cord in from the rear. (Works fine when plugged into the side port.)

Keep the plug from escaping again :-) with a small square of an electrical insulation tape.

Another idea would be to unscrew the end piece, wrap a small piece of plumber's tape on the threads and then screw it back in. If you wanted to make a bet with yourself that you would NEVER need to replace the fuse, you could also unscrew the piece, put some super glue on the threads and screw the tip back on. I think this thread's about worked out and can be put to rest.

I had a problem with the third party chargers putting the Nuvi into PC mode when I plugged it in the side port. I'd have kept it but not having the 90 degree elbow made it unusable into the cradle port with the ProClip mount. |

| I checked mine out and sure enough it was real loose. It seems you can tighten it real good though. It will have to be checked now and then. Good catch! |

tried my razr charger on my nuvi. Does not work nuvi goes into data mode.

Hello taeeno,
Make sure your nuvi is turned OFF. Connect the Motorola car charger to the side port on the nuvi. When you power up and see the Legal Disclaimer, keep holding the power button until you see "Going into charge mode".

Well, I lost the end of my car charger, wish I had read this earlier. So I went for a RAZR replacement from Radio Shack. Works great if you know the secret. smile. For me, I have to trick my 350 NUVI to accept the Car charger. If it's on already, I plug it in and it goes to PC data mode, so I have to unplug it, and it reboots, when I see the copyright words, I plug it back in - and all is good. If it's powered off, I have to do the same thing after it goes past the PIN entry, it goes into data mode. So I unplug, count to 10 and when I see the copyright words - plug it back in, comes up and all is good.
does this happen to everyone else using a Motorola RAZR V3x car charger?
