EDITED BY GPSPASSION 20060530
USER REVIEWS - Magellan Roadmate 3000T

Compared to the TomTom GO 910

Compared to the TomTom GO 910 and to the Navman iCN750 , the bright screen of the 3000T is on display

A few pictures tell a thousand words...or so they say, anyway you can now see what the latest Magellan Roadmate 3000T, announced early April, (news iem) looks like.

    First Comments by GpsPasSion:
  1. Same software as the RM800, pretty complete with multiple stops and optimization, but the 3D does look a bit dated now

  2. My test model is equipped with a full European Navteq Q3/2005 map, the US version should have the same generation. The RM800 had the Europe and the USA preloaded

  3. SiRFstarIII GPS module instead of SiRFstarII Xtracv2 on the RM800 : better overall user experience (faster and more consistent signal acquisition), but no impact for normal road navigation, should help though in extreme conditions such as busy downtowns

  4. WinCE 5.0 based instead of WinCE4.2, seems a tad faster maybe and it can still be customized for DiVX playing and "all-terrain" GPS with OziCE

  5. Longer battery life, still testing

  6. More pleasing form factor than the RM800, more compact and lighter

Questions, comments ?

ORIGNAL MESSAGE by neil.schneider
I just bought and returned the new 3000T. I got it at radio shack.

The Good...
Quick to lock a signal
Very sensitive
I liked the hard buttons
Pretty intuitive
Made well
I like how when you are typing only the relavent keys light up.

[/b]The Bad...[/b]
No text to speech
No mp3 and nav at the same time
Kinda big compared to the nuvi
Maps seem a little out of date but only judging from my brief exposure
My friends Ice cream place was not on the POI, and it was on every other nav I tried.

Overall not a bad unit, just not for me. I am a little picky

You're blazing through all the AIOs !
I'm testing it right now and essentially it's an RM800 with a more pleasing form factor and more sensitive chip (SS3 vs SS2Xtrac). Maps are Q3'2005 the latest and greatest from Navteq at this point, so it's odd that this icecream shop isn't there, what is it called ?

I could not find it.
"Sundaes" in Berlin, NJ. Unless I missed something.

My mom lives on Festival in Voorhees, NJ. This street is about 4 years old and has been in NONE of the navs I have tested including the 3000.

Yea, I am buzzing through them. I just want mp3(playlist support) and nav(at the same time) in a small unit no flip up antenna, Text to voice. $ or 5 insc screen, A built in hard drive. The tomtom almost fits the bill. But it does have issues. POI and mounting etc. Fixable I hope.

How about the screen on the 3000T? Could you compare it with some of the other GPS units?

I would say that the screen is very good. At least as good as the nuvi and the tomtom. I used it in my cab and could see fine as lng as it was at a tilt.

I had one and it was pretty good. In fact for the money I think it is a best buy. The problem I had was sometimes it took a really long time to sat lock. It needs a sirf3 chip. It could be a little slimmer. And there is limited tts. Like I said some limitsb but overall a nice unit I have seen them fof $375 on the net.

Is the window mount improved on the 3000T compared to the other Magellans?

It's pretty standard, suction cup, solid "arm" (no more gooseneck).

What I don't like about it:
3D view is worthless on the small screen
I don't like the power- I want it to go on when I start the car and go off when i shut it off.
Much harder to hardwire. Supply voltage is 5V not 12. Power plug has been changed to a very non-standard one
Can't get "blue" with the built in antenna. Will get an external. Again, a different plug

New cradle is nice, as is the new windshield mount, but I put the cradle on my existing hard mount. Again, different hole pattern.

More as I use it more.

BTW, out of a 3050 box came a 3000. Units are identical, additional cord for FM traffic antenna and receiver, some modifications to the SW, and addition of the traffickit manual. The unit reference manual is the 3000T manual.

3d looks good on a 7" built in. Just too small to comprehend on the 3.5

*************************************************
Additional comments:

Street names much smaller than 700

I now have the 3000 mounted on my dash on my modified 700 hard mount.

Has anyone seen an adapter to allow use of 700 antenna on 3000?
Anyone come up with a 5v power supply for hardwiring?

I have found a workaround to the on/off issue. If you set the sleep timer to a very small value, (with the unit plugged in) it will shut off in a minute or two after shutting the engine off. It will come back onn automatically when you start.
Display is brighter, better colors, sharper.
