As a bicycle ride director and route painter for over a decade I have used S&T for the past 5 or so years to design the route and then to paint the route in conjuction with a GPS reciever.
The change using S&T was astounding.
I use the Measuring Tool to draw the route, saving tons of $$ in gas. I used to have to drive a lot more when using paper maps. The measuring Tool is easy to use and easy to adjust (the ability to Send Behind Roads is the best imho), plus I know the mileage at once. The ability to easliy change the route saves lots of paper and time.
Painting the route with paper maps was ok but very, very distracting and required 2 people to do it safely. Using the GPS+laptop+S&T=EasyPainting. Only requiring 1 person and speeds the painting of a 500-mile route from 45-55 hours to about 35 hours with a lot less mistakes! And a very happy route painter
Yes, I've tried Delorme Streets and Topo 3, 4, 5, 6 and all are so much harded to use and the results are just not worth the extras effort, time and money.
Thanks much! I just deleted from Tips & Ticks my ideas of "how it could be done" and instead I linked your above message so people can read how it is done ;-)
