Hey gang. I found this forum during a search for an answer to a problem that my MS S & T 2006 has developed.
I use a laptop in my business and installed MS S&T 2006 with GPS a few months ago and everything worked GREAT! Loaded my waypoints/pushpins from my MS Outlook and away I went.
Here's the "problem." My original laptop had to be sent back to our coporate office due to some software/database updates and I was sent a replacment laptop to use. I loaded MS S&T, plugged in my GPS locator, went to Configure GPS and it comes back recognizing ONLY the COM1 & COM3 Communications Ports?
When Streets & Trips was installed on my original laptop, the COM4 port was used, if I remember correctly.
Let me also say that I am NOT very well versed in this sort of thing, so any help explained as simple as possible would be greatly appreciated.
I've racked my brain and all I can come up with is a really stupid question: Are you trying to configure your GPS outside with a clear view of the sky?
Cool. It may be a newer version. The file date seems newer (2004 vs. 2003). Did you try earlier (unsuccessfully) the driver from the link I provided, though?
Yes sir I did ... after the "original" driver install, S&T would still only "recognize" COM1 & COM2 when I did a Configure GPS > SCAN. Once the scan was complete, it said No GPS Device Found.
But once I did a Find New Hardware scan from within Device Manager and then pointed it to the ZIP file of the newest drivers it recognized COM5 when I did a Configure GPS > Scan from within S & T.
