I have an HP 6515, bought an aluminum case for it off ebay and rigged up a mount for it on my motorcycle to run Mapopolis.

I like to head off in a semi-random direction and explore small towns. No routes or pre-planning, just meandering around seeing where this or that road leads. Sometimes it's just a nice ride and other times it's as if my bike becomes a time machine as I ride through places seemingly frozen in time, meeting some of the friendliest people ever.
Several times, pre-Mapopolis, it's been a real adventure as I've run out of road and was close to running out of gas at the same time. Having not seen another vehicle for 30+ minutes isn't overly comforting either.
Discovered that pulling over and unfolding a paper map only to have absolutely no clue where I was to even begin to find it on the map, should it even be there, isn't fun. No one to ask directions and no clue which way to go for gas or anything else.
Being lost, low on fuel, and out in the middle of a desert is a recipe for a newspaper headline, "Skeletal remains of a motorcyclist were found today on a long abandoned mining route..."
That was pre-Mapopolis though. Now I can see where I am, where I'm going, where there's fuel, food, etc. I can even see that the road dead-ends and there's nothing to see that way and save the 30-minute trip. Hmm. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
On Saturday, I rode with a friend that has a Treo 650 that he just added Palm's (TomTom) GPS setup to. Everytime we'd stop to explore on foot he'd ask me to figure out where we were and what's around us -- huh? He even commented that he liked the Mapopolis screen better than his unit's as it shows detail of the surrounding areas and his didn't -- I don't think he loaded all the detail maps but didn't say anything as I was liking the software envy.
Although, I will say that I don't think his maps are as current as mine as some in city (Phoenix) addresses that were in Mapopolis were not on his TomTom at all. Oh well.
Bottom line is that Mapopolis is ruining my ability to tell tall tales and embellish my ride stories. Instead of tales of being lost, hot/cold, out of fuel, hungry, and fighting off rattle snakes, vultures, etc. All I can say now is that I had a nice ride, found food and gas when needed and enjoyed the ride. Mapopolis is making me boring!
P.S. Yes, a Driver's/Riders Pane would make things nicer!
