Would like to hear both positive and negative feedback any 7000 series users may have experienced with firmware revision changes or hardware. (i.e. negative changes from 2.60 to 3.0) or additions wanted (i.e. QWERTY keyboard in GUI) My intent is to pass all this info along to a tech at Garmin that I am in contact with.

1. QWERTY keyboard should be an option. The current implementation is not user friendly at all.
2. An estimate of street addresses should be given while driving up a street like earlier versions.
3. Icons should have descriptions and an option to lesson or increase the level of description detail
4. Initial satellite lock-on is significantly longer if the view is obstructed. For instance, I am parked underground. When I turn on the gps, it hunts unsuccessfully. When I drive into the open, from that period of unobstructed sky, the lock-on is significantly longer than if the car were parked in the open. It seems that the re-initialization and relock need to be improved.
5. Fix that clumsy mount. I'm not pleased about using adhesives on my dashboard.
6. TTS should have "learn mode" for street names that are difficult to pronounce. The current phonetic option is not enough.
7. Waypoints and icons should be customizable, not just splash screen thru the ximage interface
8. Better FM modulator, in fact, garmin should include a cassette adapter in the package along with the satellite antenna.
9. Garmin needs to add a theft proof feature, lock-code or something to protect my pricey investment from thieves that renders the unit unusable. Even with vigilance, thieves can strike at any time.

1. Directions need to be improved while using FM traffic data. I find that the unit will often try to take me on back roads to avoid highways that don't have traffic on them.
2. The mount definitely needs to be improved. I don't mind the adhesive too much but the thing rattles like crazy. The mount should control all of the add-ons (traffic, audio, etc.) so I can take the unit out of my car without having to disconnect several wires.
3. Better customization of tabs. I want to be able to customize the default view. I like the extended green bar at the top but some of the other information is redundant (clock, speed, etc.).
4. Auto-brightness doesn't work well when the sun is setting. The unit has to hunt around for the correct brightness level which can be very distracting.
5. The shape of the remote needs to change. I have to look at it to figure out what end is up. I should be able to recognize this by feel.

Great. So far we have got some really good feedback. I agree with almost everything posted. Question; Vapordan, when you say "An estimate of street addresses should be given while driving up a street like earlier versions" I would assume that you are referring to street numbers? Also, I STRONGLY agree that the FM modulator is weak. Its GUI interface is great, but it falls short in actual performance. My radio would not pick up the 7500's FM signal even when it was sitting right on top of it.

Yes, I'm refering to the street numbers. Garmin shouldn't get discouraged by my feedback though. I think the unit is a great unit, there are just a few tidbits that can be improved.

So it looks like beta 3.91 is already out. It seems that the suggestions here will not make it into the next release. Disappointed!

Current information was submitted to Garmin 04/27/06. Maybe we will see something in the next release.

Ok. Well I just activated the voice half of my XM radio subscription to compliment the data that I already subscribe too. Anyhow, is it just me or did Garmin forget to add direct access to the XM radio? How crazy is it to not be able to punch in a channel and go directly to it?

Garmin are you listening!?

Go to the garmin website and download the update. There are instructions on there on how to proceed.

Add map updating software. In the current world of software mods, it's almost silly that such a feature has not been added (aside from the fact that Garmin wants to charge you $150 for map updates). Also considering that maps are only updated once a year, there should be bundled software that would let you update your own version of the map to add/remove roads, update road names, etc. That would at least tide you over until the official update is released (or indefinitely ;) ).

Agreed! Especially since the 7200 has the ability to record tracks.
I'm in the process of building up a map of tracks with waypoints so that at least I know roughly where I am in unmapped terrain.

1. A QWERTZ option to the keyboard design would be nice for German Users - I dislike the ABCDE layout much
2. A faster way to get to the 'enter Waypoint by Coords' would be nice (integrated in the current Beta)
3. Support of the 'Geocache Mode' (known of the Outdoor Units as GPSMAP60CSx etc.) -> mark waypoint as 'Found' when reached so it is no longer displayed in the Waypoint List of 'unfound Waypoints'.

Besides that, I like the unit. I upgraded from a c320 to a 2610 to now the 7200 10 days ago. I traveled 2000 miles in Texas and hit more than 400 waypoints (Geocaches). The unit worked fine and was easy to operate without the Remote Control.

Just so as everyone knows, the European version of the Streetpilot 7200/7500 DOES NOT come with a built in FM Modulator to send the audio to your car radio. It has been disabled for legal reasons on the UK models. I am currently using an external modulator plugged into the line out and it works very well for guidance instructions and the inbuilt MP3 playback.

For those who dislike the stock SP7200/7500 mount I strongly suggest looking at one of the ProClip( made by Brodit ) Dash mounts. I just got done installing a Proclip Dash (center air vent) mount in my 2003 BMW 325xi. The mount is ROCK SOLID and secures directly to the stock 7200's cradle for quick release. Each mount is custom designed for a particular year and make of car/truck and looks as if it were an OEM product. I can email pics. if someone would like to post them for me!!!

I would like a 5 band graphic equalizer for the MP3 player and XM satellite radio. I would also like fast forward buttons for the mp3 player.
