Another 1st from PsiDOC... The Packard Bell 400 goes off road using OziExplorer!
Have been trialing this for a day or so using home made maps and it's pretty accurate.

For our test today we decided that the best place to test a GPS software for off road use was... Off Road!

In the woods at the bottom of a muddy bank, serious tree cover and still no problems with signal lock. Tracking progress in excellent style.

Climbing the bank on the other side, still tracking our course, without a problem.

A shot of the satellite aquisition and lock.

Installation instructions:
If you don't already have them from our TomTom install you will need to download a shareware program called WinCE CAB Manager from http://www.ocpsoftware.com/download.php .
You will also need winzip from http://www.winzip.com/downwzeval.htm
And of course you will need the Handheld PC version of OziExplorer from http://64.71.184.220/ozice/oziexplorerce1.html

NOTE: We are assuming that you have already woken up Windows CE on the PB GPS 400 using the tutorial here: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=47556

Ok here we go!
1: Download and install Wince Cab Manager trial from http://www.ocpsoftware.com/download.php .
2: Download and install WinZip trial from http://www.winzip.com/downwzeval.htm .
3: Download the HandHeld PC Version of OziExplorer from http://64.71.184.220/ozice/oziexplorerce1.html
4: Locate the handheldpc_setup.exe file that you have just downloaded, right click on it and select WinZIP >> Extract to folder c:\<<whatever is here>. This will extract all the files to a folder called handheldpc_setup.
5: Open the handheldpc_setup folder and locate the .cab file called oziexp.hpc300_arm.CAB open this file in Wince Cab Manager
6: In WinCE CAB Manager you will see a window open that has a few details. We are interested in the processor type. Click on it and right click and select properties we need to change this from StrongARM / Xscale to All / CEF. (Use the pull down menu!!) then click ok and save.
7: Repeat step 5 and 6 for oziexp.hpc211_arm.CAB
8: Double click the Setup.exe in the folder and OziExplorer will now install as normal apart from the fact that you PB400 may warn you that this application is not intended for use on this system. Just say yes to confirm the install and it'll install OK.

GPS Settings:
NMEA (Gps)
Baud Rate 4800
Com 2

And there you have it!

You now have off road routes and tracking on your Packard Bell 400.
Please visit OziExplorer's website or use you favourite search engine for info on making Maps for OziExplorer. ;)
Happy mud plugging!
All the best.

Nice work, OziCE on AIO's is certainly a treat.
Following up on a previous discussion, here are the DLL's you need to put in the Memory Map directory to make it work on a WinCE device. Didn't try them specifically on a PB400, but they worked well the Magellan RM800 and bluemedia other WinCE4.2 devices. Let me know if they work for you.

@Gpspassion
Have got memory map working with the files you posted. Thanks for that. It's very unstable to the point of not really viable for use. Some of the menus are broken - unable to see the contents, the zoom out button doesn't work (a pain if you have zoomed in on something because you cannot get back to normal view) and 7 soft resets in the space of 6 hours of trialing today.
Sadly I think memory map is a no go on the PB400.

All the best.

Ouch, I must admit I only tried it a few times on the Magellan RM800 and had one lockup I think, but having most of my maps calibrated for Ozi and MM running fine on my PDA I wasn't too worried. Anyway alwasy nice to experiment.

By the way you've made it to the front page of the portal ;-)

Seems like you have a file association problem. The .cab files are there that's what winrar is picking up. Winrar can be used to open .cab files, but in our case we need to modify it, so please unpack the setup.exe then open WinCE cab manager and use that to open the 2 files above.

Hi PsiDOC,

As it seems you are a real DOC, I thought you might be able to help me.

While installing radar files in a different way to get the wav file to tell me the speed limit, I made some kind of (big) mistake.
I had to re-install the whole thing on my PB GPS 400 but I still get the following error much to often but with no particular consequence.

Error window title: "LoadStdBitmap Error :"
Error message: "Unknown Standard Bitmap Code is found : IDB_WAIT_CURSOR1"

Would you have any idea?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Remi.

agatsap, Remi
You are not the only one it seems that has had that problem. Some of the driver files have become corrupted.
Sadly it's hard reset time and re-install from scratch.

All the best.

Ken,

Am currently playing with Route 66 on the PB400. Have got it running but cannot find how to get the GPS setup and working. I think this is due to the GPS on Com3 thingy in the registry which does not work - GPS is on Serial onm Com 2 on the PB400 - Yet more intentional firmware barriers methinks!
Ah well these things are sent to try us.

Regards,

Psi
