Roadmate 860T and Roadmate 3000T
Let's take a look !
Roadmate 860T so far:
- Same 3D mode as on the RM800
- Text to speech is back
- Comes with RDS/TMC module with 15 months of traffic service
Then comes a new family of AIO's with a complete redesign :
Roadmate 3000T:
- New design
- SiRFstarIII chipset
- Same 3D mode as on the RM800
- Built-in 4GB hard drive, likely an MD
- Optional RDS/TMC module that will come with 3 months of free traffic
Roadmate 3050T adds:
- Integrated RDS/TMC module that will come with 3 months of free traffic - to be confirmed
Roadmate 6000T adds :
- Integrated RDS/TMC module that will come with 3 months of free traffic
- Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls with Bluetooth phone
I updated the pictures and comments above, it's not totally clear from the Magellan website but it seems the 3050 has a built-in traffic receiver like the 6000T that adds Bluetooth for hands-free calling like the upcoming Garmin's C550 and nüvi, something TomTom added last year on the GO500 and GO700. A careful read of the features (thanks aljacket) shows that Magellan has adopted the powerful SiRFstarIII chipset too.

Has anyone seen/done a review comparing the "old generation" 300/500/700/750 style Magellan units with the "new" generation(Windows CE based) 800/3000T products regarding the actual software?
I love the ability to quickly find local POI's while on the road, and have liked their displays.
I am not sure if the software in the new units is now(with the updated 8600) "on par" with the old familiar ones.d

We've had discussions about that in the past, it's really very comparable, and actually the WinCE software is ahead with the 3D mode, alhtough it might be a tad slower with the WinCE emulation running, sounds like you read otherwise ? Not sure the 3000T is WinCE based although the 3D mode could be a clue.

A: The RoadMate 3000T has a look and feel unlike any other RoadMate. The quick access buttons are condensed so that the most prominent feature of the RoadMate 3000T is the 3.5" diagonal touch screen. This compact design lets you slip the RoadMate 3000T into your pocket when not in the car, making it the easiest to use and most portable RoadMate yet.
Q: What is the difference between the RoadMate 860T and RoadMate 3000T?A: The RoadMate 860T is the same shape and uses the same interface as previous RoadMate models; the RoadMate 3000T revamps the design to be ultra-portable and cost-effective. Looks like a smaller version of RM800 that fits in your pockets. I bet the volume on this is worse then the RM800. Why dont Magellan just make their own version of an ipod nano with a built in gps since this is what they are aiming for?

Cool, thanks for diggin that up.
I am not sure that the directional pad on the 3000 would be very usefull, it is getting as small as the ones on PDA's that are tough for us large finger folks to control.
So the 860 has that traffic thing built into the unit, or comes standard as an external accessory??
I hope they come out with the "updated" software for the 800 series soon.
EDIT:Did you eamil them to get those answers, or was there an FAQ somewhere? If you emailed and have a contact, can you see if the 860 can play music WHILE navigating(i saw the thread to run CE apps..not interested) |

If you follow the links given, and read down a little ways it reads:

| Wonder what the pricing is going to be and when they will actually be available? the integrated bluetooth is awesome, the traffic feature is something that is not useful to many, as it is only available inc ertain areas of the country. |

I went to the Magellan site, and they have the lists for the new form factor, but not the 860T...I wonder if they have decided not to bring that out and go with just the new form factor.
I wonder if they are going to release a paid upgrade to "update" the 800 to 860(similar to what is available for the 700)?
If there support did not suck as bad as it does, these would be right up on my list with the Nuvi/c550... |

Yes, same thoughts here, they might only come out with a TrafficKit for the 800 and move on directly to the new 3xxx/6xxx line.

Wondering if anyone has the dimensions?
Is it as thin as the Garmin Nuvi?
And the weight - the RM 800 is twice the weight of the Nuvi. How ill the 3000T weigh in?
I would get the Nuvi except for 3 features that they don't seem to have:
1. Predictive typing...that is, letters that cannot be part of a street or city name are automatically removed - this makes data entry LIGHTNING FAST and ACCURATE! I can't believe any nav manufacturer can ofer a product without it!!!!
2. Avoid specific road - if Rt7 is always crowded, I want to remove it from the route list.
3. No easy way to change route preferences on the fly. I do this all the time with my OEM unit - I decide that I want shortest instead of fastest - that is 2 clicks away for me now, with no need to reenter the route.
Any comments on these 3 biggies? |

1) This is one of my favorite features of the Magellan units..i have been wanting to own one since I first used it 5+ years ago...the reason I went Garmin Nuvi is customer/sales service. From what I have read here, and my own attempts to get ahold of them, it is not worth the aggravation. |
