Hello~ I am new to the forum and in need of major help. I’ve had the 2005 Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 w/ the GPS receiver for over a year now. I upgraded to the Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 version mainly due the voice prompt feature.
Installing it into the laptop went fine. Now I am stuck on the GPS receiver.
The problem:
*When I plug in the receiver into the port it makes this ding, ding, ding sound.
*When I click on configure GPS, then scan it prompts current port/ com4… communications port (com4) no GPS device was found.
So with the receiver still connected, I try the start GPS tracking, and a pop up reads:
The communications (com) port is available, but no signal is being received. Make sure the GPS receiver is turned on and connected to the correct port.
But I know the GPS is on because the Microsoft unit lights up in blue.
I have tried all the other port with out luck, and every time I unplug the receiver it makes a ding-ur sound, then the power goes off.
So I test out the ports with several other connections. (Like a Sony camera connection, PDA cradle connection and everything works with out that ding, ding, ding sound).

Has the USB to the GPS receiver gone bad.
Is the 2005 Microsoft GPS not compatible with the 2006 version?
Was the Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 version the wrong buy?
Will it be different if I just purchase the Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 w/ GPS Locator written on the CD?
Any idea/s or tips?
Thanks in advance.

Hi FX55 & welcome to GpsPasSion Forums. The S&T 05 uninstall process removes the GPS driver (perhaps it shouldn't, or perhaps users should be given the option to choose). But the remedy is easy. If you still have the S&T 05 CD's handy the driver should be there. Alternatively, download and install the driver from the Pharos website: http://download.pharosgps.com/download/drivers.htm

Hello ~ Marvin Hlavac, and thank you for the welcome and help. I have down loaded from the site that you gave me and did steps 1,2 and 3. And it still doesn't work. So I ran the cd from 05. Still no luck. It's still doing the same thing. Any other recommendations?
Thank you again.
Troy

For some reason I cannot access Microsoft articles for S&T 06, but check the following S&T 05 articles:

Marvin, thank you. Nothing came out of the first site you had provided. But on the second site you gave was the best. I did method 2 and tested it out on the S&T 2006.
It works! You are the best! Couldn’t have done it with out your help.
Thank you once again,
Troy

No, I'm not. Most of the time I'm just pointing people to the right reading material (like a librarian ;-)
