Be advised that the update will rest the nuvi to factory defaults and will wipe out all custom settings that were loaded on the onboard memory. I lost all my Favorites. I wish there was a way to back this data up before upgrading.
BTW, LAT/LONG info is now diplayed on the Satellite screen.

| Make a copy of your waypoints.gpx file and save it somewhere safe. To restore the favourites, just move this file back onto your Nuvi to overwrite the present file. Presto, your favs are back. |

Alesi:
Thanks for that tip. Just used it during my upgrade to the newer version. Wouldn't have had a clue how to do that otherwise.
By the way, I tried up grading using the Webupdater. Couldn't do it. Tried four times. For some reason it just would not work. I finally just downloaded the newer version from the Garmin site and did it the "old fashioned way." All set now. |

| I just tried to make a custom background (new feature) but it would not work. I think there is a limit on how big the jpg can be. My pictures are about 2megabytes in size. Satellite acquisition seems to be taking a long time as well. Hope it is not buggy. |

Make sure WAAS is off and you will get quicker acquisition. After you get satellites, turn WAAS back on. Basically a Garmin rep said with the SIRF technology though, we dont need the WAAS enabled. |

So far 3.10 seems okay. My acquisition from a cold start was much better than before (less than 3 minutes). Warm acquisition very fast, even in my living room. Love that Garmin is listening and have added Long and Lat. Did you guys notice that the first four enteries in "Where to?", "My Locations", "Favorites" were garbled/garbage?

Ok, I may have spoken too soon. 1) Like Alesi I couldn't change the splash screen. I tried with a 330k jpeg and also the cute little baby that comes with the unit, less than 300k. Now I've got a black, blank screen. Even tried restoring the default with no joy. 2) Also after installing 3.10, there were four (4) garbled/garbage entries in "Favorites" consisting entirely of "y"'s. 3) After setting HOME, I selected "GARMIN" as the destination. While the unit was calculating it suddenly turned off (after calculating about 80%). After turning the unit back on, all the GARMIN entries and HOME in my "Favorites" were duplicated.

Did you use a JPG that was on the Nuvi internal memory? If so that maybe the problem.
I used one that was stored on a 1Gb SD card and it worked great. The file size was 997KB. Nuvi asked which location I wanted to use when I attempted to change the splash screen.
Didn't have the problem with garbled entries. Just wiped out all my settings. Never thought to back them up first.
I also tried to use Webupdater and gave up after 3 failed attempts. |

| If I download 3.10 and it doesn't work well, can I reload my present version from the website? |

Note that the icons have been changed slightly when you press "where to". They used to be tilted slightly but now are not. You can compare them to the icons used in the user manual to see what I'm talking about.
edit: Note that deleting all waypoints will now also delete all your uploaded POIs so beware. Previously, user uploaded POIs were not deletable... |

Garmin only supplies the most current firmware on it's website (even though it may be buggy). If you want a previous version to revert back to, you can find them all at http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/. Just click on the Nuvi folder on that page. |

Garmin needs to take Webupdater off the nuvi software update/download page. Webupdater is NOT used to update the nuvi's software. The update file needs to be downloaded to your PC and RUN when the nuvi is connected to the PC via the USB cable. The update can begin when the nuvi is in "USB" mode.

Take your Nuvi outside and let it re-aquire the satellites. I'll bet your map location is west of Africa in the middle of the ocean. I had this happen to me and I didn't do anything as far as the splash screen goes. My map page was garbled with numerous "y"s and I zoomed out far enough to see that I was in the middle of the ocean, west of Africa. After letting the Nuvi re-aquire, there are no more garbled Favorites and everything seems to be OK. Something is making the Nuvi reset it's position to west of Africa... |

I just installed the 3.10 update and went for a little drive to check it out. I noticed that when I returned home and turned the ignition off the Nuvi went to battery power but did not give the customary 30 second warning as it used too. Anyone else notice this? Have a great day! |
