With S&T 2005 I was able to convert my .est files to .gpx using ST2GPX, then open them with MapSource, and load them into my Garmin GPS.
As soon as I upgraded to S&T 2006, the .gpx files produced by ST2GPX can no longer be opened by MapSource (6.9.1), producing an error message ("[filename]... is not a valid MapSource file and could not be opened.")
I guess I am wondering if anyone knows of a workaround or better solution to accomplish what I am trying to do.
Aside from throttling the Microsoft engineers who don't make a gpx import/export for S&T.
Thanks...

I have also used ST2GPX with S&T2004 but haven't upgraded to 2006. The only work around I could suggest is that GPSBabel will now read route points from .est files using it's MSroute format http://www.gpsbabel.org/readme.html#msroute Ignore the documentation which says it's for Microsoft AutoRoute 2002 .axe files. It does work for me with S&T2004.
You could add all your pushpins to a route and try this.
FWIW I don't think ST2GPX is supported any more so it's unlikely to be updated. |

Wow, holy cow, you are my hero! Thanks so much! I have been struggling with this for weeks and now it works. Why didn't I come here first?
One hint for anyone following the same path... the magic "MS Autoroute 2002" input format doesn't seem to be an option with the released version of GPSBabel (1.2.7), but it is in the current beta version (1.2.8).
I wonder why the "Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002-2005" input format doesn't work. Oh well, the price is right.
Also, the output formats "Garmin Mapsource - mps" and "Garmin Mapsource - gdb" don't work, but "GPX XML" works wonderfully, producing a .gpx file that MapSource has no objections to.
It works with both S&T2005 and S&T2006 as input files. Those are the only versions I tested.
I can't tell you how grateful I am!

AFAIK this is an "export" only format which produces a CSV file which can be imported into S&T

The MSroute format only works with route points so may have to specify the -r flag to work with routes for the mps or gdb formats |

Having upgraded to S&T 2007, I find that GPSBabel is no longer exporting pushpins and/or stops when converting from S&T (.est) to GPX XML (.gpx).
If I use "Microsoft AutoRoute 2002 (pin/route reader)" or "Microsoft Streets and Trips (pin/route reader)" as my input formats, I get "msroute: Unsupported byte order within data (0).".
If I use "Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002-2006" I get no errors, but the resulting .gpx file has no waypoint data.
Anybody have any ideas? |
