I can't see how this is possible Paul. The PB400 uses a Samsung S3C2410X02 processor @ 266 Mhz, just like the Acer range of PDA / GPS that happily run TT5. Personally I'd be looking for a problem software wise IE: a .dll that doesn't quite work correctly. Anyway I'll have a PB400 to play with tomorrow, so will let you know how it goes.
All the best.

Canadian maps are available for the original Destinator ND that is bundled with the unit. However you can get TomTom to work with this unit as well. Have a look at my thread here: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=52616

Hi there,
I've tried this patch and it works great but still have some questions:
1) Is there a startapplication (like the packard bell) in which you can configure your own programs like tomtom, destinator, filmprogram, etc) Update: I've altered the Packard Bell application it now has a TomTom button (incl. picture) and the banana pc application (it's use isn't that great. I'm still trying to make a button that makes it possible to stop the dshell appl. so you can return to windows desktop.
2) If you start the menu-application from packard bell how can you stop this (without using the reset button). 3) Is there a way to reprogram the buttons on the outside of the packard bell? 4) Does anyone know if this device will support TMC? 5) I've automagically hidden my taskbar but can't get it back there is a shortcut on the desktop but clicking on it doesn't do anything Regards, Wingie, who is going to try out the tomtom patch |

Ive just been given one of these as a birthday gift ( lucky me!) Does anyone know if there is a Destinator PN5.5 software update available, as its shipped on some devices? Mine only has 5.1.136 installed. I tried "googling" but to no avail. So far im impressded with it, it is certainly more accurate than the Mio. Also, what about updated maps? mine are Q4 2004 ( i think) are there later ones out?

What do you mean by "latest" ? Latest available on the market ? Actually that's not true, Route 66 v7 ships with Q4'2005 maps. Destinator v6 is announced with Q1'2006 maps.

Well, I called destinator, and they are issuing updates soon on www.destinator-update.de. But for now I have speed cams and all the POI I need on this unit. ( very easy) If anyone needs to know how to do it let me know. Also PB will be issuing a firmware update within the next 2 months so im told, will keep you posted

Now that I will be very interested to see, particularly the structure and the reflashing process. I have a gut feeling about the origins of this unit, but I need to have a look at the firmware and the other bits and bobs before shouting about it.
Regards, Psi
Packard Bell GPS 400 running on TomTom 5 / OziExplorer and Destinator ND (Not used!) Currently working on yet another hack for the PB 400.

Just like other PB stuff, it will be a case of wait. The annoying thing is ND has TMC but only on PPC, why oh why was it not included on the 400?. ive copied all the files from mine using a/sync, and im studying them to see what I can do with it. The voices seem pretty easy to play with so far. It only runs on the 4.2 .net core, nothing special.

Have followed the instructions to all these hacks on the PB. Have had good results but one little thing: no zoom on the Destinator ND software. Everything works well but that!
Would use TomTom but no maps for Ireland... is that right or have I just missed something?
PsiDoc / Kenwood and forum as whole - Thanks for the good work!

No Zoom? My PB400 (Destinator ND) has auto-zoom on routing and a hardware slider (left of screen) for zooming maps. Is that what you mean? To enable autozoom, go to settings/ map and tick the check-box by auto-zoom.
